The Caledon Wurm is able to be killed in one hit if a mesmer uses feedback. People are unable to get credit on the wurm. The wurm kills itsself in less than 30 seconds after spawning.

This just happened on the Wurm kill I was doing. I targeted it and it was literally dead before I could even get one shot off on my Ranger.

This needs to be fixed. It’s known, people are doing it deliberately to grief people, and it should be considered an exploit.

I submitted an in-game but report with a screenshot of this too. Being able to one hit kill a world boss is broken, I hope an Anet Dev sees this soon otherwise people may just start skipping the world boss wurm.

Yep, happened twice so far when I’ve done this event. First time we were shooting and it went from 90% to less than 30% and then down. Today, the wurm was just coming up and doing its warm stuff did a spin and died. I didn’t even get a shot off like 90% of the rest of the zerg in the zone. ANeT, this is truly an exploit that needs to be fixed – and fixed fast. and the mesmers that are knowingly using it should get a 1 month ban from the game.

I have seen this happen multiple times as well. Deliberately usually; in one case, the griefer bowed and danced before popping out. People think they’re not accountable for their griefing any more because the megaserver is so anonymous and random.

This is only a bug if using Feedback on Lupicus is a bug. It’s more poor encounter design than anything else.

EDIT: It still should be fixed though. It’s pretty dumb for this to happen, regardless if it’s a bug or not.

I have noticed this a couple of times, too. Usually I just shrug and move on, but sometimes, when you get feared and/or immobilized at the start of the event you may find yourself without any chance to contribute enough for the reward.
I do not think the mesmers who do this do it to purposefully grief people (at least not all of them), maybe they actually just want to be nice (quick reward) or show off, but the results are still unpleasant for those making the way to the event for no reward at all.

I think they are starting to realize that they can grief people and some, not all, are using it on purpose to be the only one who might get a reward. And then laughing about it. Since this has become a known exploit more mesmers will and are using it.

Have any of you reported this exploit in the proper fashion of emailing exploits@arena.net with all relevant information, videos, images, character names and account names (name.1234) of exploiters you have witnessed?

Also, be aware that posting an exploit on the forums is against the rules and may actually get you in trouble instead of/in addition to those you documented as actually exploiting the bug. I don’t think many people from ANet even pop in on the bugs forum much anymore, especially in recent weeks/months, so I don’t expect them to even see this thread to remove it despite it stating exactly how to exploit and grief a zerg of players at a zone boss event.

Just some fyi. I hope they get around to fixing this sooner rather than later/ever. It’s a pretty serious issue affecting many, many players.

Probably a really bad idea to post how it’s done here on the public forums, honestly. I haven’t done wurm in a while, but I’d bet the frequency of this happening is going up as more people learn about it.

I never have used that skill on wurm to begin with, so hadn’t noticed this, but it does need a very fast fix since it is extremely game-breaking and, obviously, easily reproduced.

Normally feedback does nothing on world bosses. I think they may have wanted some of the projectiles to be reflected, like with wall, however feedback causing every attack to reflect immediately and do massive damage to the wurm, is a serious issue. With everyone doing the same event at the same time, and being thrown into the same maps, you have far too many people as it is and the wurm dies very fast without something like this. Simplest fix and what they most likely will do, is just make the projectiles not blockable/not count as projectiles.

As others have stated, this is something that would not only count as a bug since it’s a world boss, but also as an exploit for those that do it intentionally.

Making this more well known not only increases the chance of people intentionally doing it, it could also lead to many innocent mesmers being harassed and blamed for causing others to lose credit.

I think the best solution for this would be to change Feedback so it only works on the next X amount of projectiles. This would preserve the skill’s tactical use against bosses, but not break world bosses like the Wurm. The reason why the Wurm is dying in one hit to Feedback is because he shoots dozens of projectiles at players, each one doing thousands of damage. Since Feedback reflects ALL the projectiles he shoots, he suddenly takes hundreds of thousands of damage and dies almost instantly.

The same fix should be applied to other Reflect skills too, of course.

I’d recommend just not bringing it up at all and hoping no one else brings it up. Bringing it up tends to trigger the curiosity of those mesmers who don’t know about it, making them try it; or it triggers the troll in other mesmers, making them want to use it.

I don’t know if this is really a “bug” per se. The main benefit of feedback is the fact that it indeed does reflect the target’s attack back at them. Mesmers main use in dungeons is using feedback and time warp. If you take away the ability for a mesmer to actually seriously hurt a boss, then they will become as useful as condi necros in PvE.

I would say that the way they should fix this is by redesigning the wurm’s attack as opposed to nerfing feedback. Maybe it’s a sign that bosses shouldn’t be hitting for so much damage (even spread out) that they can one shot themselves. :P

(As a side note, one of my friends was someone who accidentally did this. He didn’t know he was going to one shot the wurm. He is just a good pve player that understands when to use feedback, and so timed it right in order to hurt the boss. So I wouldn’t always blame the mesmer, unless you have tried it before, you don’t always know how badly the boss is going to hurt itself).

Nerfing Feedback isn’t the answer here. The bug appeared because they changed the wurm’s AI and added a massive AoE projectile attack – they shouldn’t nerf a skill in exchange to make up for it. That’s just stupid.

They can tweak his attacks and hopefully either make the projectiles unreflectable, or make the AoE a non-projectile widespread AoE. Mesmers shouldn’t be hurt just because they didn’t test the new AI out before they implemented it.

Why should they nerf Feedback or even other reflects, due to this? They could just easily make the projectiles shot by the Jungle Wurm unblockable/unreflectable. The main reason people take Mesmers for dungeons is for the reflects and Time Warps to increase the team DPS. Nerfing a skill because the AI of the boss is bugged is horrendously stupid.

Err – Hsinimod – i take it anet staff are not allowed to have weekends off ?
Just so you know and others know as well – anet support staff dont work weekends ( was the same for gw1 support staff ) and when they return to work on a monday they have a weekends worth of support tickets to sort thru as well as any investigations into problems reported on here.
For gods sake will ppl learn to wait – its 1 boss and isnt going to break the whole game and if it bothers you then avoid the boss till its fixed .
Btw stating you`ll try this and doing it may mean if its an exploit – you`re abusing the same exploit and we know how anet likes to ban exploit users ( they seem to have the ability to track ppl – like over a year ago with the ranger bots running rampage and innocent ppl who were passing thru the group doing their own stuff got flagged tho anet did sort the bots out from the players ).So we`ll at some stage seeing a post about you being banned and we`ll def know why.

Tehcnially, the Wurm is killing itself (reflection of damage from FEEDBACK), but the bug does need to be fixed.

One world boss being bugged is not the end of the world and a huge game breaking exploit. I’m sure they will look into it, but that is not the kind of issue that will get fixed with an immediate patch…..it will likely get rolled out when they do the next update.

I know this is isn’t a “fix” for the bug, but it’s a “fix” for the megaserver stuff regarding world bosses that I’ve been using since the patch. Since all bosses are now on fixed times, and not spawn windows, if you show up to a world boss event about 5-10 minutes before the timer ticks off the pre events, you’re most likely going to end up in an instance that has a huge number of players. Sometimes this is good (it’s nigh impossible to take on Jormag or The Shatterer etc without a decent number of players) but sometimes it’s not, my case being that I have to turn off player models to get a decent framerate, spell/skill FX with post-processing basically turning the screen into a giant white blob of bloom (really fun terrible on Golem Mk.II if you’re attempting to melee it because it’s impossible to see the trickle of electricity FX that warn you where the electricity is going to cover the platform, and a number of other issues that occur when you have a small condensed area filled with 100+ players.

If the boss’ timer to initiate the pre-events is set for 09:00, enter the map at 09:02 or something similar. It’s going to be different for every boss since the pre can sometimes be locked to a timer (Fire Elemental, Shatterer) rather than the boss spawning as soon as players finish the pre, so I’ll leave it up to you to figure out the best times.

My reason for doing this? Players are now on what I would call a fixed “rotation” where they will go from one boss to the next on every 15 minute cycle, which leaves the instances where people show up right before the timer ticks off completely full or near-full. Earlier today I decided to do the Golem boss 5 minutes after the timer for its pre went off, and was put in an instance with maybe only 10 other people. It took much longer to kill, was actually more challenging than the usual “stand here and press 1 to win” circumstances of a full instance, and I was actually able to melee it without being defeated thanks to finally being able to see the small tells of where the electricity was about to activate.

I’ve done the same with Wurm. Show up late, smaller group of players, chances of a Mes using feedback before getting in a hit has been non-existent.

It’s a bit sad that I have to do it this way, but it works. Usually. There are times I show up too late and the boss has already been defeated because the initial massive instance has already wiped it and cleared out for the next boss in the rotation. It’s not an exact science, unfortunately.

edit: I’ll also note that there are other side effects of having the megaserver with events like Tequatl where people stand around for 40 minutes to make sure they are in the largest instance, but guilds such as TTS have gotten around this by taxiing only the players they want to an instance that they can control, which I’m not sure is a good or bad thing when the instance you just sat in for 30 minutes suddenly empties 5 minutes before the event.

And naturally, it’s evil mesmers who are to blame, and not devs who hotfixed something after the patch and then abandoned the still broken post patch game for China because new buyers are more important than people who already paid for the game, and not devs who seemingly forget to test anything they add on mesmers (be it outfits on clones or reflectable projectiles on world bosses).

To be honest It is a fair mechanic that was working fine before the patch all that should happen is that the poison darts are blocked and the worm should get a bit of damage. However it is bugged atm causing the worm to insta death. So instead of removing the mechanic just fix the insta death part and in the meantime mesmers should just hold off on feedback till its fixed

Should hold off, but they do not. I have come across too many trolls that find it “funny”.

I saw this bug for the first time yesterday and the Mesmer in question started laughing and saying in map chat “I guess I am too OP”.

Would be great if this could be stopped, the instant killed part of it.

You really can’t blame all mesmers for doing this. You don’t have a zerg full of only experienced level 80s doing world bosses, and given that this is in a starter zone, it’s even more likely that you’ll have new mesmers trying out skills. Add that to the fact that megaservers blob us into maps of 100+ people on a single boss, and you get a lot more newbies, thus compounding the problem.

Yes, there are trolls, but not every mesmer is one.

With any luck (okay, seriously a massive amount of luck. With fingers crossed. And lucky kittens on top), they’ll fix this issue in next week’s patch.

Don’t care how they fix, but they need to.
Nerf it would be one way, but I would prefer that the event is changed so wurm is immune to feedback skill and all damage is reflected back at mes that initiated the feedback.
BTW, I do firmly believe that mesmers use it solely to grief others during the wurm event. kitten trolls think it’s funny to stop others from getting rewards.

Why should it damage the mesmer? That makes no sense. Just make it so the wurm can’t one-shot itself by getting hit with feedback from its own attacks. It’s just that simple.

I threw that in just to see the response. Way too many (I know—not all) are using it now JUST to grief the event.
It would only kill the mes that used feedback during the event, so if you didn’t use it during the event—you have noting to worry about.

Ok, pick a side. You either:

a) Just threw that in there to see the response (which is really trollish), or
b) Actually want them to make a change so that any mesmer that uses Feedback against the wurm dies.

If they’re going to make any change, make it so that Feedback functions against the wurm the way it previously did. Why make it so a whole class of players dies if they try to use a viable skill just because a few griefers exploited it when it was bugged against one single enemy in the game?

I think it would be funny as heck, to see the mesmers die when using the bug/exploit. And after getting shut out the last 2 times with this event because of Mesmer griefers-(btw it’s more than just a few)-it would make it worthwhile just to see them cry about it for a day or two.
Just look at how up most responded to the bait on the fishing line that was cast out(so easy here ). I know that it would never be implemented.

But seriously—the devs need to take a second and fix this NOW.

Looking at the lack of replies or confirmation by devs, chances are this is never going to be fixed, along with the bugs at Tequatl, Taidha Covington, Gates of Arah, Megadestroyer, Temple of Balthazar and more.

Looking at the lack of replies or confirmation by devs, chances are this is never going to be fixed, along with the bugs at Tequatl, Taidha Covington, Gates of Arah, Megadestroyer, Temple of Balthazar and more.

Hey, you forgot Dredge Commissar, Foulbear Chieftain, Temple of Melandru and Temple of Dwayna to add to the list of permanently stallable world bosses with bugs that have existed and been reported for probably a year and a half now.

At least I haven’t come across the infamous Lyssa cannon progress stall since 4/15 – maybe that’s finally been fixed.

I have a feeling though that the Jungle Wurm will see a fix with a patch soon – afterall it does directly affect something related to the feature pack release, and is because of a new ability added in during 4/15 that someone forget to tick as unreflectable.

What this issue shows is that we need a report button for exploiters. Just today people explicitly asked mesmers not to use feedback because of this issue, so naturally one did and had a perfectly stupid excuse for it: the more people cried about him griefing the sooner Anet would fix this, so he was basically doing us all a favor. (No surprise that did not go over all that well.)
