Camera-Patch - unable to play -> feeling sick
You do need accurate camera movement in an MMORPG. Its not even completely disabled so its hard to believe that youve tried any other mmo besides this game. If its way too fast for you then maybe its your dpi setting. My buddy had a problem like that on his razor naga. He lowered the dpi and problem was fixed.
Lower the camera sensitivity, problem solved.
While the above mentioned may already help; I’ll toss in a few more suggestions that helped me earlier on at release.
The FOV is pretty limited and as such was making me pretty dizzy. This could be a slight cause as well. (No this is not a plug to adjust the FOV :P ) – What I ended up having to do, and it really helped was move the monitor back some. Turned off FXAA and added another desk lamp.
The combination seriously helped me.
There’s a video floating around here somewhere on how the human eye sees and how FOV can make one ill feeling. Watching that, it made sense on why I was getting so dizzy. Moving the monitor back added enough distance to help. The FXAA added a strange blur to the game which only made the dizziness worse. The added light helped offset the imbalance in the room.
If nothing else, it may be something to try that may end up helping.
Ingame my Camera-Settings are already on the lowest settings, i have a Razer Deathadder, i already played a lot of other MMOs and Games in general, and yes it is way to fast after the patch, it was normal before to me it seems that the lowest setting is now way faster (i already used the lowest ingame setting before because i run my mouse with high dpi)
The problem is my mouse is perfect for every other purpose and game yet it only is too fast in this game so why should i be forced to change everything to undo problems one game caused with updates (it seems it doesnt have application profiles, sadly).
Also as i said before i think one of my biggest problems are FPS it seems that FPS drops and preaks alter my camera movement which makes it this way which seems to make me ill, the game was perfectly normal on this settings before with 30-50 FPS with drops and peaks i probably didnt realize, and the problem is that first of all why should i have to tune down all my settings now? And more important i even tried that but FPS never seem to be that stable and the gain of FPS while staying within my prefered resolution is limited while it makes the game look ugly.
I do understand that some people like that, but why shouldnt people be able to opt out if it makes them sick? And as i said before i dont see any point of this direct mouse-input in a game like this, it is a good thing in FPS games but it is utterly pointless in PVE.
@WasaGuest my room is not that dark ^^ also i never had this sort of sickness-issues in any game before,, yeah i do understand that FOV can make one feel ill yet i also have limited space on my desk to move my monitor not to mention that by doing so i pretty much paid the price for a bigger screen for no reason (and i need my PC for work most of the time where i have to be near the Monitor i mean it could help but yet am i really expected to adjust all my furniture and behavior to one single game because the developer was to lazy to ad a “turn off” option into the game?
Not too lazy. Too time intensive.
Many others were motion sick with the camera smoothing before the update. Anet rushed a fix out the door for it rather than take the months and months to code, implement, and test this “slider” everyone thinks can be whipped up over a long weekend.
You should be able to opt out of it… frankittenhis and the FOV issue should have been options from the get go, but dont expect to be able to for a long time… and its not changing back.
From my point of view the FOV reasoning is really weak anyhow. PVE is not PVP there is absolutely no reason why the FOV should be limited in PVE which is one of the things i hate about most MMOs not to mention GW1 aswell PVE and PVP should be more separated at least when they deem PVP so important the way it is now and was in GW it just hurts PVE-Players the most.
And i highly doubt that adding an on – off option would be that big of a deal not to mention that things like FOV could be easily changed by the players anyhow if it was allowed for PVE Players.

It really sounds like you have the same problem as my friend did. When he told me the camera was way too fast I knew something was wrong because Ive been gaming with him through almost every MMO. What was happening is that when he would look up the camera was so fast that the view would be underneath his character. All he did was move the dpi slider down in his Razor mouse software “which can be downloaded on their website if you don’t have it” and everything was fine after that, it was that simple. Give it a try because it doesn’t move any faster than any of the mmo’s out there. It sounds like the speed your experiencing is something different than we are.

I did the same with similar results! I was noticing a ‘queasy’ feeling when in certain areas or when doing jump puzzles. I adjusted my screen placement and increased the ambient light and it worked wonders.
Also, playing in windowed mode offers a slight FOV increase. The narrower the window the greater the increase.
Feed them and they multiply.
Please do not feed them.
Something happened where my screen would “defocus” for a few seconds (usually after large explosions?). I’m not sure if it’s related to the motion blur patch, but it feels like watching a 3D movie without the glasses. It gives me headaches :/
I thought i was the only one after patch, it’s not too bad for me because I’m running constant 85 fps+ but sometimes gets jerky esp on jumping puzzles that used to give “camera freakout”
Camera smoothing slider would be great
I am having huge problems with the camera making me motion sick.
Specifically, I have a Charr character and I was trying to do the jumping puzzle “Loreclaw Expanse” in the Plains of Ashford. I had the worst time of it when trying to go back up after falling in the water at the bottom of the puzzle.
Every time my character jumped against a wall, the camera lurches left and right in a way that makes me motion sick. I had to stop playing early for the evening because of it. I did many jumping puzzles prior to the patch that changed the camera, and this is different. The prior motion was annoying and hard to see in, but it didn’t make me sick the way this new camera does.
I do not normally have motion sickness in video games (and I don’t get motion sick often in real life) so this was rather unpleasant.
I’ve already had motion sickness with the camera, but I just got done playing my charr for a bit, doing puzzles like the person above. It made me so much more sick than usual because the camera handles so much worse when you’re playing a Charr, and it seems to bounce even worse since the patch.
I am grateful for the lack of smoothing, but I think I’ll stick to playing my Sylvari and Asura for a while.
