Guild Wars 2

I started a new necro recently and I’ve been slowly unlocking the skills I need for the build. I had to spend skill points to unlock the next tier of skills. One skill I bought was Summon Bone Fiend. I thought this would be useful until I got the skill I wanted, Signet of the Locust.

So when I unlocked the next tier and tried to change the skill I’ve found it won’t change it. I tried using another skill to change and that won’t work either. So I tried to change other skills and they are the same.

The only thing that works is I can move the skills around. But adding a new one won’t work.

I’ve never had this issue before.

Anyone know whats up?

I’ve bought the skill with skill points, and I have the skill slot open.. But I can’t change skills.

I can swap the skills already in a slot, but I can’t add another (that I’ve already bought).

The skill level rewards are more about unlocking the skill utility slot.

I have slots 6,7,8 and 9 open. I selected skills for each of them, and then wanted to change one of them with one I bought. But it won’t let me change any of the skills.

I did report it as a bug in the game. Is that the way to contact GM’s in Guild Wars 2, or is on here the best way?

Make sure you are not in combat when trying to change skills. A screenshot might be helpful.

I’ve had quite a few level 80s, including another necro.. but I was trying to make a necro so I can experiment with it more, just in case I mess something up lol

I used to swap out skills outside of combat a lot. That’s why this is weird. The little arrows are there. I click on it, select the other unused skill, and a click sound happens. But nothing changes.

Its strange.

You could also try a -repair of the client, in case of corrupted file(s). Same link, but Search (Repair).

Well this morning it seems I can now swap skill 7 in and out, but skills 8 (Summon Bone Fiend) and 9 (Epidemic) can’t change.

I managed to get around it by moving skill 7 to skill 8 position. Then I was able to change Summon Bone Fiend when it was in slot 7. Then with Signet of Locust now in skill 8 position, I can swap it in and out. So I moved Epidemic in to skill 7 position and was able to swap that out too.

Once those 2 skills Summon Bone Fiend and Epidemic was swapped out, I can swap all the other skills in and out again.

It seems like a bug to be honest.

Thankfully I got around it.

Ok I was reading an old thread when still trying to figure out what is wrong.

It seems in order to change skills 8 and 9 I have to be level 24, and level 35.

This is weird because the skill slots 7, 8 and 9 unlock at level 13.

I did find it odd that I hit that level and suddenly not 1, but 3 slots became available. I was expecting the slots to open up one by one.

It looks like people arent supposed to have acess to skill slot 8 and 9 until later levels.

Though I have a friend also at the same level as me and she can swap skills 8 and 9 out easy.

I think this is a coding bug that hits some people and not others.

So if I hit level 24 and can then change the skills directly of slot 8, then its confirmed.

It seems a messed up way of doing things.

No, you misread, and the thread you found is from before they reworked the utility slot unlock levels after the NPE. You unlock utility slot 7 at 13, 8 at 17, and 9 at 17. Then, you unlock the elite at 31.

Your issue sounds like something is just buggy with your game client. Try the repair suggested above.

My necro is level 15. At level 13 slots 7, 8 and 9 opened. I can put skills in to those slots. But I can only change the skill in slot 7.

So if I want to change a skill I have in slots 8 or 9, I have to move it to slot 7 first (so the skills swap around), then change it via slot 7.

It looks like skill slot 8 or 9 have partially unlocked but not able to change them directly until as you say until I reach level 17 for slot 8, and 17(?) for slot 9.

They should have fully unlocked either at the correct level and not until.

To make matters more confusing my friend skills unlocked at the same time mine did, yet she can change all her skills, while mine seemed to be partically level locked.

For the record I currently have 6 level 80s already. I have made characters since the patch and never had this issue before.

The bolded text is probably the case, yes. And you unlock slot 9 at level 19. This can happen if you do any personal story missions or anything where you were transformed and given skills exclusive to that transformation; my warrior on my second account unlocked her elite skill slot (which unlocks at level 31 normally) at around level 20 or something after doing a personal story mission where she was given a weapon or transformation that gave her new utility skills.
