I cannot equip new, that is, bigger bags for two of my characters, no matter if it’s one from an event or a bag I crafted myself. I was just able to equip Rox’s 12 slot bag in the inventory of my low level ele, who had had only three extra bags next to the starter backpack before.

However, I was unable to upgrade any of the existing bags for my main character and a thief, who, I guess, reached the maximal amount of bags – but I know I should still be able to upgrade by using bags with more slots.

I’ve read forum posts with similar problems. I’ve tried dragging the new bag over the old one (as in, where it reads “8 slot so and so bag”) and double clicking it. I also emptied the bag I wanted to replace.

empty the bag.. then click the bag icon hold and drag that bag into your bags..

then drag new bag into it’s place..

You have:
• Starter Backpack
• Bag A (12-slot)
• Bag B (12-slot)

In order to remove Bag A and Bag B from your inventory pane:
Step 1 – Empty BagA and BagB contents into Starter Backpack (or Bank).
Step 2 – Drag BagA and BagB from the left side “Bag Slots” into the contents of Starter Backpack
Step 3 – Equip new bags in empty Bag Slots. These bags must come from your StarterBag inventory or an already equipped bag. they cannot be dragged out of the bank.

That’s pretty much the gist of it. If you still have an issue after this, it’s defintely a bug.

(Main Point: You cannot swap/switch/replace a Bag while it still has contents in it.)

As I said, I emptied the bag I wanted to upgrade from 8 to 10/12 slot, but nothing happens.

@Necrid: You mean I have to unequip one of the 4 old bags, place it into the starter backpack, so that I can equip the new bag instead? (Step 2) Well, dragging did not work.

Odd, I’ve always been able to swap a smaller bag to a larger one, even with contents in it.

Definitely try to empty one of the “old bags” and unequip it so you have an empty bag slot and try to drag and drop the “new” bag there. Also test if you can swap 2 bags and slots by dragging 1 equipped bag into the slot of a second equipped bag. They should swap slots.

But if you’re having issues, and following the instructions above doesn’t work, you may need to submit a ticket. Especially since you’re saying it’s only on 2 characters.

Sorry I forgot to mention (which is now corrected). When equipping new bags, those bags must come from your StarterBag inventory or an already equipped bag. they cannot be dragged out of the bank and put into the slot.

Okay, solved. The problem was….me. I just wanted to take a screen shot and, probably for the first time, dragged the inventory panel further to the right: up until now, I’ve never seen the bag icons on the very left (or I did when I started playing last year and then shifted the window and forgot about it). Yeah, I know, big face palm moment.
So, dragging the self-made bag over the icon of an old one did the job.

Lol, glad you found your problem

Had a similar problem, but I could always see my bag icons on the left.
I had 4 8-slot bags crafted by another Alt. I recently bought a 12-slot invisible bag from BLTC. Out in Queensdale I could not get an empty 8-slot to move to an empty space in my Starter bag. Also, selecting “equip” on the 12-slot did nothing. I was not in combat in any sense, standing in Claypool town.
I mapped over to Hoelbrak, thinking that maybe I had to be in a city to make the swap. Still didn’t work. Closed and reopened Inv. a few times. Finally got it to work.

Lesson: Keep trying in different ways.
