Can't get through Summit Invitations farming
This has been reported before. Apparently it got changed to address this, but it doesn’t surprise me the change didn’t help – they should possibly just turn the champions into elites to discourage farming. Or make it so that it resets at exactly the same pace if it succeeds as if it fails in order to make sure there’s no incentive to deliberately fail it (wasn’t half the point of GW2’s setup to make it so that one player couldn’t troll another in this way, let alone have an active incentive to do so?).
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Since the technical change has failed it would be good if some customer service action was taken.
I was in Frostgorge the day before the patch and the people failing the event were a greedy, selfish, arrogant mob. Any reasonable request to finish the event was met with mob humor and derision. Other players couldn’t stop them being selfish brats so they were being selfish brats. I would no sympathy at all for anyone who gets a brief suspension for that behavior.
ANET wont.. the same players have been running round Tyria looing for easy fail resets for ages now and then they send it viral to pack in enough players to the event to ensure it cant get succeeded.
The fact they are still being allowed to purposely fail events endlessly, even after patching them, just goes to show just how poorly ANET regard their game and their ToS.. .. So we might as well all just jump on the bandwagon and then sit back and wait for all the cries from players about how drop rates have been stealth nerfed, salvage rates diminished and DR seeming heavier etc so everyone gets stung because of these players actions..
But you can’t blame these players. they are simply looking for easy win farms to exploit until a fix comes – I blame ANET for allowing it to go unpunished .. all their metrics they supposedly keep should yield more than enough evidence for them to hand out anything from first warning to temp bans, account rollbacks or perma bans fro those who have exploited the fail timers belligerently… … then we can sit back and read all the cries of “it wasn’t me”, "your making a mistake, “I wasn’t even their”, “I was just running past and saw the 8000 champ bags lying on the ground and thought I was supposed to farm them” etc, etc

Apparently, this thread has been moved to game bugs…
Seems a bit disingenuous, since the problem is not actually related to any flaw in the code. The code is doing what it’s supposed to do. The problem is a design failure – ArenaNet has created a situation where the interests of some players are mutually incompatible with the interests of others.
It’s not a bug, it’s a design flaw. And since it’s progress blocking, it needs to be fixed PRONTO. If you can’t find a better way of doing it, bring the event back to where it was before the S2E3 update, so that the champion farm zerg no longer has any interest in it and it’s soloable by a good player.

You can, and should, blame these players. ANET has repeatedly stated that deliberately failing events in order to farm is not OK. But even apart from the game mechanics side – and I’m not totally opposed to exploiting such things myself, within reason – the one issue that is clearly to blame squarely on the kittenheads involved is the toxic response to the very reasonable requests from other players who want to finish those events.
It’s the same thing that got the Queensdale champ train killed off, a decision I wholeheartedly welcomed at the time, and which, I thought, took way too long to implement. The same applies here. If ANET is unwilling to bring the banhammer down on those kittenholes, the least they can and should do is to change the events so that fail-farming them no longer works or at least is considerably less lucrative than win-farming them.
I ran into this phenomenon for the first time this morning, taking my fourth character through the story. I didn’t understand why the event kept failing even with a large number of participants. Silly me.
One of them suggested letting one run succeed to let LS people through, and told me in PM that he always does this when leading the farm there to keep it from being nerfed. Those of us there for the story were accused of being “trolls” trying to “spoil” their farm. It took several tries for us to cap Coiled Watch and then keep one of the dolyaks alive while all the farm kiddies kept screaming at us to back off the cap zone and then screaming at us to let the yaks die.
In a similar vein, a few days ago I heard someone being accused of trying to “spite” the train by killing the quaggan “out of order”. I’ve been away from the game for some time, so this “train” phenomenon is also new to me.
Something is very, very wrong when people playing the game as designed are the ones being accused of trolling and spiteful behavior. Something is very, very wrong when the design is now pitting player against player in PvE. It seems that ANet has managed to add griefing to a game that was formerly praiseworthy for being free of it.
I noticed when I ran my new ranger (who hasn’t even finished the first PS, let alone activated Living Story chapters) through Frostgorge that I could interact with and break the ice inside the Svanir area, despite the Coiled Watch event being farmed and not allowed to succeed. Have you tried just skipping the event chain and interacting with it to see if that works? I realize it doesn’t solve the issue of farmers messing up things, but it could at least get you to the next step.
You can interact with the totem at any time, but it doesn’t trigger the next step in the story unless the event chain is at the point where the shamans have been defeated. Once the chain recycles back to the beginning, it has to be driven through to the battle in Barrowstead to unlock the story again.

Ah, yeah, that makes sense.
This is getting ridiculous, I’ve done this or tried to do this many times already and I believe people are just farming the champions/elites. I would actually like to get this part of the LS quest done. I stayed in the blue square to ‘defend’ and I get someone telling other people to report me for not following directions as to run down the hill. I’ve stayed up by the tower, the mobs don’t run down like how someone said they would. So phase us out or something, because at this rate I’ll never get past this part.
I just got to this part as well. I specifically exchanged gold to gems to unlock the part 1 of the story so I could play content I missed and start on making my backpiece. I’d heard a lot about this issue, so I was dreading it. For good reason – I arrived on the map, asked if there was a way to complete this without “disrupting” anything (quote marks included – they’re the ones being disruptive) and was told that I should either get a clear map during Jormag or guest somewhere else. Basically, to gtfo so they could keep mindlessly farming. I’m coming back later during Jormag to try and get a better map and will bring guildies with me to complete this thing. I don’t care who I tick off, I have a right to finish the story I bought with in game money. Freakin’ leeches.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
To those of you being harassed for wanting to complete the content, block (and report, if necessary) the people screaming at you. ANet has said multiple times that completing the content as was intended is the “right” way to play the game. If anything, the people who are deliberating failing the event to farm champs are the ones who are exploiting and would get banned for it if push came to shove. If they don’t want that to happen, they should just let the content complete once so the LS guys can get what they need, then go back to farming afterwards. It’s what, 10 mins off their time? Isn’t that better than getting banned or getting their precious farm spot nerfed?
In fact, if things get really bad, reporting it as an exploit is the best solution, since Michael has actually stated that submitting such a report actually summons an invisible GM to check things out. (This is how they can sometimes show up as a 6th player in an already full 5 man dungeon instance.)
I just dealt with this after purchasing this chapter with gems, and I honestly felt like I was doing something wrong by trying to complete the story. I had to just block them because it was hard to deal with. They definitely weren’t considerate, even though helping us along would get us out of their way sooner.
BrettM, your experience is almost identical to mine.
They were talking about reporting, even though they were being hostile in the first place.
It’s frustrating to deal with, that’s for sure.

anyway to finish this? im stuck aswell..
One way to get around this problem is to limit the amount of normal mobs, which can be done by changing it from a ‘Capture the Area’ event to a ‘Son of Svanir Morale 100%’ event, so there are only a certain number of Sons of Svanir that come as the percentage goes down.

There ya go Gudy.. you have stated right there.. ANET have repeatedly stated events are not in place to be purposely failed.. but those statements become empty words if they are not prepared to act on their ToS.
The very fact they put time and effort in to patch events to stop the exploitation by the failtrains says they are not happy with it.. but they refuse to deal with the actual issue .. other MMO’s I play would of released a warning a whiles back now stating that if players continue to exploit the reset mechanics by way of purposely failing events and blocking progress etc then account actions would be levied on the individuals… rollbacks, temp bans, perma bans.
ANET like to say they monitor all their metrics for things….. well someone back at HQ is obviously not reading his/her spread sheet to well when such obvious spikes begin to occur on certain events and fail to realise just how ridiculous the levels of loot are that are being farmed by the failtrains and the knock on effects it has ..
So yes I blame ANET for not being tougher on the individuals undertaking this activity… if they did then I would hazard a guess the activity would soon subside to the point its the ones that don’t really care if they get banned or not that are left to try and scale events up enough by themselves…
But who are we trying to kid.. it’s not like ANET are ever going to do anything about it except release a fire fight patch and watch them move to the next one.
I too have run into this issue after about 600gems of unlocked story later only to be unable to finish my quest. I get the whole premise of farming a event’s I have seen the trains in orr and other places. That’s one thing. But this event is clearly being abused for personal gain at a unfair rate and keeping people from progressing. I even tried the nice way seeing if the farmers wouldn’t mind just completing the event. I only got silence save for a few reply’s of tomorrow or my personal fav. " To quit my server and to go find another one. Yeah I’ll get right on that. I have seen both sides of the arguments with people even giving in to just farming the hell out of this event. Some people even citing that this is the only way for them to make $$$ and not have to cave to buy gems. For real? so you would rather farm a event break down the drops and stuff them in your bank/post them on the trading post just to make a few coins? Is this the best we can do as gamers? Where is your self respect? Your sense of pride at having achieved something through time and effort. The one thing I have seen over the years as I played this game is that things you want take time/effort. Yes some drops aren’t that great. Some of the recipes require a ton of mats I get that. The fact that so many people have just decided to give into this nonsense is just sad. I wouldn’t even care as much if I could just progress through the story i paid for. I still don’t think it’s right but at least I could move on with my game. Arenanet I hope you make a change soon. Hopefully before people have more items/gold then they can carry.
No wonder the waypoints are all messed up. lol exceeds weight limit.

It may be a bug that the recent update that was supposed to fix it didn’t do its job.
