since the update on the 16th I have been unable to play the game in full screen mode any more. loading up the game works fine even selecting a character, but as soon as I load into a town or map with full screen on the game starts minimizing and full sizing over and over making the game flash on and off and locking up my computer. I’m not even able to use task manager to turn it off using Ctrl shift Delete. and i’m forced to restart my computer, by holding the power button down, to regain control

I have the exact same bug on two different computers.

Edit: You can temporarily fix this by running the game in windowed mode from a shortcut by adding -windowed to the command line. It’s less than optimal, but it works.

What OS are you guys using?

Yes, I just updated the game now and as soon as I try to log in with one of my characters, it goes into strobe mode, unable to close, task manager wont respond to anything, and I am forced to manually turn off my PC.

Completely unplayable.

Windows 7 64-bit. It’s playable if you windowed mode through shortcut, but that’s dumb and eats a few fps for me.

Ah, then it’s not just Win XP users.

Okay, I’m typing this on behalf of my wife. Here’s what happened and what now happens.

She was playing, logged out to change characters, and the game crashed. She didn’t get a chance to type in any information before her computer crashed outright.

She rebooted, opened the launcher, logged in, clicked play. The game seems to go into the loading process, but doesn’t come up at all. It vanishes from the task bar, the mouse starts flickering, changes to the mouse pointer for the game, then outright freezes her computer. If she had music going, it would still run flawlessly. Trying to open task manager fails. It comes up, but you can’t click anything. You can’t Alt-Tab to anything else. We MUST hard boot the machine once the crash takes hold.

What I have done to try to repair this is the following:

I have made certain ALL drivers are up to date on her computer.

I have tried the -repair that this thread offers as a solution. 3 times. That fails.

I have tried finding local.dat. That file does not exist on her machine. In addition to this, I have tried editing the GW2 folder so it isn’t Read Only, and that doesn’t seem to do anything good.

The only thing I haven’t tried is a full on reinstall.

Let me be clear for you all. My wife opens the client, logs in, clicks play, crashes. Still on her desktop, no black screen issue. No blue screen issue. Just a seemingly minimized then vanishing game on the task bar, a flickering mouse pointer, and a system freeze that forces a hard reboot of her computer. Please help if you can.

Guys, I think I found a solution. right click the icon and go to processes and see if you have the game in compatibility mode. allot of windows XP users are having problems with that same issue. unclick the compatibility mode and you should be fine or at least make sure its not windows XP. That Worked for me

Thanks mate! Solved the problem! (i cant remember when did i “check” the compatibility with XP before -.-) anyway its working! At least on my side.

It didn’t worked for me…neither the "windowed"mode…
