While mapping for my 100% completion, all of a sudden my skills don’t work anymore. I ran around for a few minutes and couldn’t hit anything, my attack animation was not showing. I can interact with npcs, but I can’t use my weapon/utility skills. I’m playing as a necromancer.

I decided to use my death shroud skills and that fixed this game bug.

I didn’t have autoattack option on.

Okay, so I was playing path one of honor of the waves tonight. Again I couldn’t use my skills after I was revive this time by my group. Re-equiping my weapons didn’t make my skills work. Going into death shroud didn’t help this time either. I had to purposely get downed to get my teammate to revive me in order to be able to use my skills.

I had the same thing in WvW where I couldn’t use any attack skill, my utlity skills worked fine. I relogged and it started working.

Happens to me in WvW too, and logging out is not an option when the q is 4 hours long.

Same here. I’ve experienced this bug several times since the Halloween update. I can’t use Skills from 1 -5, but utility skills(6-0) can still function. And I can keep doing the dodging animation without consuming endurance (but still receive damage). Actually, I’ve recorded a bit.

Currently, I know picking supplies up, spending supplies, and get urself downed can fix the issue.

I had the exact same thing happen in WvW for me yesterday. Weapon skills didn’t work, but 6 to 9 and 0 skills worked. It happened when I picked up one of the explosives for the Toxic Offshoot events, and got interrupted by an enemy players mid-animation.
I was able to get it fixed by using a siege blueprint and putting it back (2 skill when wanting to place the siege).

try to unequip and re equip your weapons, it fixed for me

I lost contribution bonus and chest during Temple of Balthazar raid because of this stupid freaking ANNOYING BUG. Sadly I don’t get any compensation for this loss from devs. I wonder if they’re ever going to fix this game breaking bug.

This is the single most frustrating bug that still persists. This does not only occur as a result of large concentrations of players, as I’ve had it happen with relatively few players around.

Not only does this sort of bug discourage me from playing with ‘stacking’ sigils, it annoys me when I cannot complete an event I’ve been part of for an hour (and beyond) because I can no longer hit anything.

Logging out, or going down and either dying or reviving solves this issue, but what kind of gameplay is that? I have to go down, HOPE that someone revives me amid the battle in order to continue playing?

I’ve had this bug 3 times in under a week on my warrior character, had it like twice in months on other characters. empty open zones, or busy full events or wvw seems to make no difference to when it can randomly occur.

Still happening as of today’s update. I was participating in the Ogre Wars event, up to the last event, spamming skill #1 all over the ogres. I received no reward after taking down Foulbear Chieftain.

Apparently, somehow along the way while picking up loots, I lost ability to use all skills, effectively nullifying my contribution to the event and the chest.

I have had this bug since this morning, can’t use any skill and now I can’t speak to merchants as well, but I am able to speak in the guild chat….

After a while the game loses it’s connection with the server, if you try to log back in I’m stuck in the loading screen until I grab another character.

What’s wrong arenanet?

I just got this while doing Temple of the Forgotten God, so it’s definitely not an issue of the number of players(I was even solo – no party members at all).

I couldn’t use skills 1-5, I could use 6-0, I couldn’t evade/use adrenaline.

It happened during/after a battle where I was underwater killing some risen. I went to go pick up an Illusory Essence that I had dropped for the battle, and was unable to pick it up again.

I ended up having to relog, because nothing I did enabled my skills(unequipping items didn’t work, I could pick up other objects in the mission, and I couldn’t die due to killing everything hostile)

This happened to me twice for the last week…

Both times while in WvWvW .

I was online with my Guardian that uses shouts and I could NOT use skills 1-6 (yes no healing in WvW while in a clash…gg) 7-9 were my shouts that worked fine but make no dmg so useless apart from supporting.
0 was also NOT working.
F1-F3 and dodging worked.

I was using Staff at that time, tried to change to GS. Did nothing.

Even unequipting and reequipting or chaning to scepeter/shield was useless.

It happened once random and the second time while in EotM when I was transformed in those Mechanical Siege Devourer and got downed. I was revived but then no skills worked anymore.

I tried everything, from damage of falling, dodging, /dance, etc.
After 30 min I finally got out of this state by using supps. Another time I got out by jumping into water.

However, especially in WvW this is extremely annoying. And relogging is no option as I will not wait for hours again just to get in.

I remember this bug also happening in PvP… Nice when you can’t to anything to your enemies and must ask them to kill you… :-/

Pls fix this already! 6 months w/o fixing is too much.

Unfortunately this bug is still alive and well and happens very frequently during battles with control-happy mobs. You get knocked down and suddenly you are effectively unable to continue the fight.
Other than a quick relog – which might not be a good idea during certain critical events if you do not want to find yourself on a different megaserver – this is usually resolved by either getting incapacitated (knockdown works like a charm if you can somehow still get aggro) or having your current skillbar “rebooted” by getting downed, diving into water etc.
However, these options usually involve some luck and/or waste of time if they are available at all, so a bugfix would really be preferable.

This bug is still going on as of today… I’m surprised that Arena.net has let this slide for months now without a fix.

Confirmed. Playing on lvl 65 necro in EOTM when i couldn’t use skills 1 – 5 on either weapons sets, seemingly out of nowhere. Skills 6 and up were still useable.
Unequipping and re-equipping didn’t solve it, but after building some siege i was able to continue again. Thankfully we didn’t run into any enemies in the mean time.

This post was made 7 months ago and the bug still exists. I don’t know what triggers it but i could not use any skills which dealt damage. I am playing necromancer and only able to use spectral walk. My well of blood wouldn’t trigger because of the wells siphon health trait (I assume this to be the case). The only way to fix is a log out but then i lose my instance and have to wait hours for the next one

This happens all the time in WvW.

The best poor man fix is to keep a siege blueprint in your inventory. Equip it then stow it. No need to build or take falling damage or anything.

This has fixed it for me 90% of the time, occasionally it won’t go away until you log out.

I seem to be getting this bug whenever I try picking up an item on the ground while another player commits the same action. I can use some utility skills that have no activation time, but all my attack skills are rendered unusable. There seems to be some clientside > serverside miscommunication.

I typically fix this by suicide, downing, getting knocked down, or reconnecting. Getting used to bugs is a normal way of playing the Ranger profession, I admit, but this particular bug is surprising considering it affects more than one profession.

I would just like to share that a year later, I am experiencing this bug. Can’t attack or interact with NPC’s. Getting 10 MB/S on my internet. What gives?

This bug seems to occur only after falling from a considerable height. While falling, you can’t use your skills. Sometimes, the game doesn’t re-enable your skills after you hit the floor. That’s what you are experiencing.
