Currently, the implied fees on currency exchange are about 18%. Pre-HoT, they were 15%, as documented on the wiki. Does anyone remember when this changed? Was it intended and, if so, did Mr Smith ever explain the reasoning?

Thanks.

Background/Math

Current rates:

  • 100 gold buys 583 gems
  • 583 gems buys 67g 48s
  • the ratio is ~0.6748, which is 0.821^2, implying fees of 17.9%
i.e. 100g is worth 82.1g in gems (after 17.9% in purchase fees) and those gems (583 of them) sell for 67.48g (after 17.9% in sales fees)

(gw2 shinies has a useful tool for demonstrating the ratio)

Wiki-documented rates

  • 1 gold buys 85s worth of gems (15% purchase fee)
  • Those gems sell for 72.25s (15% sale fee)
  • the ratio is .7225, instead of ~0.6748
