Character clock tower bug
I’ve seen this happen a few times and to me it looks like this is caused by a desync between the graphics and the actual jumping puzzle. The graphics on your computer lag behind and you are actually jumping too late. If you happen to be waiting at the top with somebody who has synced graphics it would look like they jump way too early.
A pretty sure sign for the desync I’ve found is a “freeze” in the first platform that appears right after the first stair (see screenshot). It stops its movement midair then “warps” into place.
The only solution I’ve found so far is to hope that someone “synced” is jumping with you (so you can time your jump right) or exiting and reentering the clocktower instance until you have a synced one.

I experienced this syncing issue on my sylvari, logging out to desktop did not help.
Swapped to human no problems at the jumping puzzle.
On my sylvari wen the first explosion on the tower happens, the debris freezes for a few seconds. I’m assuming this is when the content becomes out of sync.
I did not experience this problem with my sylvari for 2012 or 2013.
Yeah, I’d say it’s a lag/desync issue. As Mork says, a telltale sign is whether or not the gears exploding out of the tower at the start do so smoothly. If they jerk or stutter or seem to suddenly appear out of nowhere, you are lagging and will need to compensate for this by jumping earlier than expected.
Last night I had about a 1/2 second lag that I timed based on the gears. Accordingly, once at the top of the tower I jumped even before the lightning had struck the window and I made it in fine.
Happened to me six times in a row a few minutes ago. It’s not lag, no other jumps are affected. I also made the jump with another player, we flew the same angle, lenght and time and difference is, she disappeared inside, while I got smeared against invisible wall. Playing on my charr, she later said it happened on her Norn, too, and as soon as she switched to human, she makes the jump just fine.
I thought that I was just bugged and I was also wondering why I kept jumping through the cracked window and for some reason the jump would fail and I’d be ported back to the start. I even went on all my characters of different races to see if there was a difference.
Then I found this video
Turns out this bug has happened before, just not as widespread. Short term fix is described in the video.
tl;dr skip to 1:20 on the video (aka, jump into the wall that comes AFTER the clock face breaks)
I now get in 100% of the time.
Nope, smeared all the same. Now I even got ported to the start AFTER others already left for next round.
It’s weird. I had this problem as well, but only on my sylvari.
