I noticed just a short while ago that killing the veteran elementals does not award me with any experience points most of the time.

I at first thought the amount of damage needed to be done to tag it for loot had been raised as a part of the new anti-farming changes, but then I noticed it on several occasions when I had been among the first to hit the mob and had been beating on it the entire time it was alive.

This is not a case of me missing the award notice, I have checked my experience points total before and after several kills, and there is definitely something screwy going on.

Just straight up beaten to death. I’m sure you know how long the shield lasts now that it’s half underground. I will double check next I do it, and take screen shots if I can.

Unfortunately, my screenshot taking didn’t work out, as it didn’t capture the mouseover on my exp bar. I can confirm the following though:

I took note of how much exp I had.
I attacked a veteran elemental that had well over 50% of it’s health left.
The ice shield was at about 75%.
I did several thousand damage to it.
No exp was awarded. No yellow number appeared on screen, and the total exp bar remained at the same figure it was at before I killed the mob.

This does not happen every time, but it has happened repeatedly.

I think that’s something to do with veterans in DEs with a lot of people. I don’t even attack veterans in Orr events anymore since any event with more than 10-15 players seems to give me no xp or loot for veterans.

I only really noticed this on my ele who I’ve got there now. I don’t remember if this happened with my other characters who’ve been there. It might also be something to do with condy vs direct damage? It ‘feels’ like something to do with something that guages participation. During events where I’m not getting veteran credit, if the zerg splits up (I forget that one base defense in Orr where they come from the front and the side…Shelter?) I’ll start getting xp and loot again. It’s definitely based on the number of people there.

I thought this was common knowledge or I would’ve bugged it long ago.

I can’t speak for other events, but I do know that before the wintersday patch, the veteran elementals in the Claw of Jormag fight were working correctly. This is a recent issue for this particular fight.

It might also be why so many people are complaining about lack of drops. Not only has the loot has been removed from the small elementals, but the veterans are not awarding kill credit properly.

Veterans scaled to level 84 require you to do tens of thousands of damage to get kill credit. You should always be in a group for these events because it makes getting kill credit easier (it counts the damage of all group members as 1 for kill credit, and only requires you to hit it once to join in the group credit).

Tens of thousands? Can we get some official confirmation on this, please? It would certainly explain a lot of things if so, though it would still be odd that before the patch I was able to get kill credit/loot from 3-4 veterans per wave, and now sometimes I can’t even get exp from one.

It’s a % of the total health, so the higher they scale, the more damage you have to do.

I know that, but tens of thousands seems a rather high figure. And as I say, I -used- to be able to tag 3-4 veteran elementals in the Claw fight.

Have experienced the same thing, although it might be tied to the amount of people that tagged the same mob. I have gotten the loot from them, which throughoutly confuses me, thinking the numbers might just not show up due to everything else happening meanwhile. But since you say the xp bar does not move at all, it might be different factors deciding when you deserve loot instead of when you deserve xp.

I noticed the same thing a few days ago and just figured it was a recent change to prevent people from keeping the dragon alive and farming the elementals.

I’d like to say that a month later this is STILL an issue. Some mobs are not awarding exp upon death.

To clarify yet again:

I checked my exp level.
I killed two mobs (Veteran Goliaths). Both were above 75% health when I started hitting them. I did several thousand damage to each.
They died due to player damage, not because of claw’s wall going down.
My exp was at exactly the same amount after the kills, as it was before them.

I have noticed this as well. I thought it was by design and just started ignoring the veterans.

This would explain why I’ve not gotten credit for being involved in defeating these vets for my daily.

Why add a daily requirement, then bug the ability to obtain credit to meet the daily vet defeats?
