I changed closest target to tab and cycle targets to c, and the closest target setting is really misbehaving. It selects targets far away even when I’m next to something, which makes me attack stuff far away and draw a lot more adds then I intended all the time.
It seems to choose targets in front of me rather than the closest one in a circle, but I cant say that is the issue for sure, because sometimes it is just weird.

Super frustrating, please fix!

So no one else has issues with the targeting? That seems weird since it is so clunky for me, maybe I’m doing something wrong…

I’ve noticed the same thing. It seems like it only takes into account enemies that are currently on screen or are in front of you, instead of actually choosing the closest enemy.

Yeah! And it counts neutrals as enemies… I can’t tell you how many moas have lost their lives due to a targeting error.

I can see why someone could want this, but it should really be a setting. Most of the time I don’t want to target neutrals. Those poor moas, yes.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I have seen cases in which one of the goals of a task (formerly “renown heart”) was to kill grubs, mosquitos, or other neutrals, and some might want it for that.

Personally, those are such a minority for me, it would be far easier to click them myself. More often, I’m fighting a Son of Svanir or three, and instead of targeting that guy throwing stuff at me, it targets the moose next to me. Then I’m fighting three Sons of Svanir and a very agitated moose.

Personally, I am a fan of targeting enemies or neutral, and only targeting creatures on you screen. This adds to the realism factor for me. However, I have had a few incodents (not many) where I targeted a mob farther away on my screen then the one intended.

My primary grip about this issue is while in the downed state it sometimes takes too many precious moments to put an enemy (main issue is pvp) on screen to use defensive abilities.

Last night, my guardian nearly died right before completing the monthly experience survivor achievement… because the C-button (my “closest enemy” hotkey) kept targeting marmoxes (marmoxen?) instead of the ogre brutes attacking me.
