I’ve been scanning and rescanning with my anti-virus and anti-malware, but there’s nothing else in my computer. But when I open the client, my anti-malware keeps saying that CoherentUI_host.exe detected as malware s3.amazonaws.com

That only happened today. And I’ve been getting those Error Code: 7:11?!?!?!?! for more than 2 weeks now and then that happened today. What’s going on? Help?

CoherentUI is the in-game ‘browser’ that GW2 uses to display web-like parts of the User Interface, notably the TP/BLTC. It’s launched automatically when you play the game.

Some anti-malware software thinks that’s suspicious behavior (and for reasons beyond the scope of this post, it’s not crazy for them to do that). At this point, the publishers of those programs should know to allow Coherent to run alongside gw2, but … they haven’t.

You have a couple of options:

  • Ignore the error and just put up with it. Not ideal, since you want to trust you anti-malware’s word that something is wrong.
  • Create an “exception” for gw2.exe and/or coherentUI_host.exe — you’ll have to consult the program’s guides for how to do that (or let us know what you’re running and maybe someone here can offer some tips).

I’m not sure if the following two options will work for sure, but they have worked for others reporting similar symptoms and are easy enough to try:

  • Run GW2 from a folder you create, instead of an official windows folder. Typically, folks install it into c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86). Instead, you can move (i.e. cut and paste) the GW2 folder to something like c:\CocoGaming.
  • Run GW2 as an administrator. (There are a variety of ways to do this, including right-clicking the program file and selecting it as an option.)

Good luck and please let us know how things go.
