Consume all for Essence of Luck not working.

I just lost a stack of 62 exotic Essence of luck from using consume all.

I know because, I just reached 170% right before I use the stack, there was no word showing that I gain X% magic find , and hero panel still showing 170%.

I report ingame with screenshot but i dont have screenshot of my essence of luck stack .. so.

You need 15,920 luck to advance from 170% to 171%. Sixty-two Exotic Essence of Luck is 12,400, I believe.

Thus, you need more Essence of Luck to advance.

You almost certainly didn’t lose it. 62 Exotic essence of luck is 12.4K luck; at 170% MF you need 14K-15K luck to gain a point. Most likely you only just had 170 MF, and you simply haven’t earned quite enough more luck for that extra +1% yet.

How to check:

  1. Open your Hero UI (“H”).
  2. Open the “Achievements” tab at left (6th icon down).
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the display.

At bottom right, you’ll see your current Magic Find, and a bar showing:

  • how many points of Luck you need for the next +1%
  • how many of those you’ve earned so far.

If you consumed a stack of 62 Exotic, and haven’t used more since, that should be close to full – but unless you have a lot of MF points from achievements, that stack isn’t enough, on its own, to get you a full +1% at 170 MF.

To see your MF from Achievements, mouse over the “Magic Find” number (“+170%”) just above the bar, and read the hover tip.

MF gain is on a (simplified) diminishing returns curve. The more you have, the more luck it takes to get you an extra +1%. “Simplified” because there’s a plateau once the cost per +1% hits 30K luck.

(Be grateful you can actually consume a stack of 62 essences with a single click now. It wasn’t always so, and – believe me – maxxing out MF by double clicking every essence, every point of the way was, literally, painful, even with Artificing to merge small essences into big ones!)

(Edit: As an aside – and without meaning it in any negative or derogatory way – I’m actually quite surprised that someone can manage to get all the way to 170% MF and not be aware of the above. Along the way, you’ve cashed in well over half a million luck points. But everyone plays in their own way, I guess, and I suppose if you always cash in large stacks of luck, you might take a while to notice how things work.)

Does magic find even matter anymore? There are so many things it has no effect on now…

Although I note that “so many things” excludes just about every new type of bag that drops in Magus Falls (most of which explicitly note in their tool tips that they’re affected by MF).

Truth to tell? Who knows. Does it even matter? I know, though, that I have two accounts, one with maxxed MF, one without, and I definitely feel that I get a better hit rate on rares and above on the first than the second. I’m sure it adds up over time. Plus, what the heck. It’s something else to pursue when you’re playing. If it gives pleasure – even just boasting rights – what more justification do you need?

Does magic find even matter anymore? There are so many things it has no effect on now…

Of course it still matters, despite the fact that there are more potential situations now in which it won’t apply.

  • It matters in nearly all core Tyria event chains, notably for Orr temple clearing.
  • It matters for fractals in several islands where folks can’t or don’t commonly skip foes.
  • It matters for lots of PvP chests.
  • It matters during pre-meta chains in the new zones.

Controlled tests have repeatedly shown that higher MF means over the long run more valuable loot. It’s a subtle effect, so it’s not easily seen “in the wild” — it’s also easily missed if people aren’t keeping careful track of drops over long periods of time, which almost no one ever does.

It would be better if ANet was more explicit about which identically named loot bags it applies to and it would be “more fair” if it applied to loot bags that substituted for foe drops (as is common for story instances and final meta chains).

tl;dr it matters, in subtle ways (not obvious to most of us most of the time).
