I am getting thrown out to the character select menu constantly. It is getting tho the point of it occasionally happening 3 times inside 5 minutes, and frequently 5 times in 30 min. This was not the case before the Lunar Festival patch. In addition to the general annoyance, this is making it almost impossible for me to do events, as every time I get dumped out I end up in a different instance than before and lose my rewards. This needs to stop.

Have you started support ticket? Have you checked whether there’s other software that has recently updated or been added to your computer that might be interfering (especially anti-malware)?

There’s an implicit assumption in your post that the problem is on ANet’s end. The evidence suggests that it’s probably not: lots of people playing without problem and no more posts about “unplayable” than after any other update.

I too am getting frequent client crashes and disconnects. Sometimes the screen goes black, sometime I get the option to send a diagnostic report. Viewing reliability monitor logs tells me that the gw2-64.exe executable is crashing due to a memory stack issue. Nothing has been updated other then the client via the patch. Repairs on the client do not work. Memory diagnostics come back normal. Issue is patch related without a doubt and you are not alone. Funny how people make assumptions about others in a less than subtle passive-aggressive manner? Humans eh- I’ll never understand you. Hoping Anet are alerted to this and can help.

It seems there was a recent Win10 update (at or near the same time) that is causing some issues.

Although my client doesn’t disconnect often, my screen goes black few times a day. It is definitely not a connection issue or PC problem. I can see my GW2 mouse cursor moving just fine, no FPS drop, the screen going pitch black and not interactable at all. All I can do is shut down GW2 and restart the launcher.
and it happened during my sPvP match today which makes me feel sad even more.

Microsoft loves to make things better by “upgrading” tools and changing settings back to defaults.

Actually, maybe it’s not the changes or tools itself but the very own process of downloading updates. Apparently Friday is the day for Win 10 updates and, as everyone know, you have barely to no control of when it’s going to happen. Possibly an update was being downloaded that congested the connection then the game started to lag and disconnect.

I tell it for fact because recently at my work place every Friday the connection start having issues, to the point of download speed reaching 2 Kb/s on a 30 Mbps connection, in a network with 15 or so comps running Win 10.

I had been having such issue last year, curiously it stopped recently (hopefully it won’t come back). I had been working with support for months and no conclusive response so far, but everything pointed out to be an issue with the intermediate servers between my ISP and Anet servers: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Constant-black-screens-and-discon-Repost/

Good point. Your ISP speeds might be affected by people in your building/neighborhood downloading updates at roughly the same time. Microsoft does try to space update “appointment” out, but there are just only so many days in the month and far too many machines.

Similarly, your nearest backbone might be impacted …or parts of the backbone between you & ANet’s ISP.

The internet is getting more & more congested; it’s not always within the control of anyone we pay to do something about it.

In short: needs more data — run pingplotter or something similar to collect it and send to ANet.

I used to be able to stream (OBS) and run discord at the least with the game without issue. Now if I even run discord the game starts hitching so badly that I can’t do jumping puzzles due to frame dropping. Again, only since the lunar patches.

Yup, during my troubleshooting with support I send forth and back several ping reports (some even done with Pingplotter) and most of times the nodes in the middle (neither me, my ISP or Anet’s) had the highest packet loss in average.

To OP: yes, it’s a complex issue and a deep troubleshoot is usually needed. As Illconceived said, try to work out with Anet support and maybe they could help you to find a solution.

I would say its an Anet issue if GW2 is the only game i have this issue with. Recently it has just been getting worse and worse. I can’t even do story instances anymore because I get booted before I can finish. It is seriously getting annoying to the point I am almost ready to stop playing the game again

You can say that and it seems logical; it doesn’t mean it’s true. Routing on the internet isn’t that simple and increasing congestion is going to increasingly offer surprising results.

It could be a problem with anti-malware on your machine, which thinks it’s protecting you. It could be routing.

Regardless of the reason and especially if the problem is with GW2.exe or ANet’s servers, ANet needs data if they are going to help you resolve it. Please create a support ticket and work with them. If you know how to run pingplotter or related software, so that and include results in your ticket (otherwise they’ll provide you with a tool that makes that easier). The game comes with some diagnostic tools, too (see the wiki for more info).

tl;dr create a support ticket; help collect data. Otherwise, there’s not enough for ANet to help, regardless of where the problem lies.

To show what I meant, here is a sample that I sent to support a while back. It kind of shows how the backbones (nodes in the middle) can affect ping and packet loss.

I had this problem and try a lot of diagnostics. I finally found it only by updating my BIOS who was not on the last version. GW2 uses a lot of Ram
Hope it helps
