So, was introducing a few guildmates to fractals, and asked one of them to get a craft back (he had 400+ crafting) so he could get some more AR without having to buy/craft an Ascended backpiece.
Much to my surprise, the person doing so was unable to slot in a +9 AR infusion a backpack he had previously. We guessed it might be some “old item issue” (as in the item might have not been refreshed since the update) so he crafted a second one, which wouldn’t accept the infusion either.
The only thing that ended up working was him removing an old +5 Simple Infusion from a ring he had, slotting the +9 in it, and slotting the +5 on the back piece.

I haven’t attempted to reproduce this yet, but probably will do so tomorrow and update this.

At the moment the foremost item available to aid new players ease into fractals is not working, and many a person will be wondering why the hell does this infusion slot not infuse.

Agony Infusions have a level requirement of level 80, and the crafted backpacks are level 78. The +5 simple infusion worked because it doesn’t have a level requirement.

That’s what requires fixing, with the removal of simple infusions, that slot is rendered useless.

The attribute ones (mighty, precise, malign, etc. and 5/7/+9 AR) don’t have a level requirement, and so those can go into the crafted back items. However, those are harder to obtain for someone new to fractals, I’d imagine, since they require having 50 stabilizing matrix in order to purchase one.

A ridiculously expensive option is to buy a AR+16 off the TP and break it down into five AR+9/stat+5 in a week or so (when ANet adds that option to INFUZ). (I don’t recommend it.)

Still, I don’t think it’s a bug that an L78 backpack can’t use most infusions. I think it’s an oversight on ANet’s part: they should either remove the infusion slot entirely or convert AR to have a lower level requirement.

Well, oversights are still reported here, no?

Sure. A moderator will move it if they think it’s a suggestion instead.
