So I noticed every now and then that is seemed that my crit chance was changing randomly, so I decided to test it and see.

I sat completely alone in the middle of a deserted zone, popping in and out of my hero pane. I changed no gear during the span of this. I have no traits that effect my crit chance.

With absolutely no changes to my character, gear, location, or surroundings, my crit consistently bounced between 41% and 36%.

I’ll do it again when I sign on later and take screenshots.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a reason for this?

Its probably because your being scaled to the level of that part of the zone you are in.
Check your level at the bottom of the screen in brackets, where your experience bar is.
Your precision which affects crit chance will probably be scaled down to match that zone hence your crit chance changing.

Or it could be the WvW bonuses affecting you, i think there is a bonus that increases crit chance, could be wrong, either way its 1 of the 2.

There is a different amount of Precision required per point of critical chance depending on level.

There is also a ranger trait that adds 70 precision, it is only active when you are in combat.

1) If you swap currently equipped weapons (shift), the difference in Precision will change this stat. At level 80, every 21 Precision = 1% Critical Chance.

2) WvW Bonuses might affect this, but I can’t say I’ve tested it at all (keep in mind that certain traits will give you a % bonus to precision based on other stats as well, so a Guardian with “Valor” traited gets 5% of his toughness as precision).

3) You might be having a weird run-in with the effects of a Superior Sigil of Accuracy, which adds exactly 5% critical chance. This item has not shown up in the Hero Panel since the game’s inception, and they haven’t expressed any desire to fix it. However, it is possible they have been attempting to fix it after all, and you are seeing a buggy/partial fix.

4) Banners, Sigils, Signets, ect. should be checked as well, just in case. Also, even in the exact same map, levels will vary (and precision is notoriously poor at scaling).

Well that’s your problem right there, you’re an engineer. They’re the biggest bugs in the game. LOL

Seriously though, this happens to me on my engineer too. Switch to another profession, it won’t happen any more. At least it doesn’t happen on my necromancer or warrior.

Probably it is not the case, but, just to be sure: were you trying your kits?
Because when you equip a kit you lose the stats on your weapons (and if you have precision on your weapon you los critical chance)

Unless it takes about 2-3 minutes for it to register sometimes, which very well might be the case, it’s not. I sat down and looked at it with just my weapons out and it changed. It usually shows on my hero pane going back and forth between kits. When I sat down, it would never change while looking at my hero pane, but once or twice in the span of about 5 minutes when i toggled out and in it would be 36% instead of 41%.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s because I spam medkit while running around aimlessly, causing it to constantly switch back and forth, making it go crazy?

Maybe I should stop that.
