Culling
While in the Cursed Shore area participating in the Gates of Arah Meta Events there were large groups of both NPCs and Players (just over the 30mark of participating players and about 7 to 12 enemy units) appearing on the screen. The Culling effect of invisible units became a factor and an issue; although I was able to lock onto enemy name plates and the enemy would become visible at closer range after their death they would not drop any loot. I tried this with my dps: ranger, warrior and Mesmer (all which do significant damage that I could verify in the text box) the effect was always the same (NO LOOT DROPS). I also tried this on my lap top which is newer and has a i7 processor and a better NVIDIA graphics card but still minimal drops at best, although I had a better drop rate(of just over half), it was minimal akittens best (especially for the higher lvl champs). Again I want to mention all my characters are dps and produce large amounts of damage, fully exotic/ascended gear and set to dps zerk spec (so doing the damage and spending the time in the event was not the issue).

I made similar experiences. Sometimes you just have to guess where the enemies are and attack them without actually seeing them. If you do that, you have a higher chance to get more loot. -> I am not saying that this is great and the way how we should play, but it helps a lot.

The next thing is that people see the enemies rendering/ visually appearing at different rates. My bf and me sit next to each other and we noticed – for example in Orr – that I can see them seconds before he can. And when they appear on my screen they already have low health. (That’s why we learn where they spawn and try to attack them before we see them, otherwise we would not qualify for loot.)

Sometimes it is so bad that you cannot see them until they are already dead. You just see them when they are dead and collapse to the ground. (That’s not nice as well because you can’t realize that fast if they are dead or not and you waste your skills on these guys. ^^ It doesn’t help either that sometimes dead enemies have some health bar left because the game does not update their health bar status fast enough.)

And OF COURSE it all depends on the profession you choose to play with.
High DPS, high AOE, a quick attack speed, … then you have the best chance for loot.
Good choices are: Thief (sb), guardian (staff), ele (daggers), necros (marks and wells), etc..
That does not mean these guys have to be nerfed, in fact the others need to be brought on par with them.

Well, they already “improved the looting” as they fixed how you qualify for loot. Before the fix it was so much worse. Some professions really had disadvantages.

I cannot wait for the end of culling. It really has to stop.

I do not want or need to see other player’s animations! (You – devs – might want to consider to distinguish between helpful animations like seeing another player’s healing spring (where I can jump into if needed) or just clutter like ele’s fire balls. Thanks.)

Let me see the enemies and their animations!

Thank youuuu!
