Q:

Hello,

Yesterday, me and my brother were comparing Achievement Points and we noticed that Daily Achievements seems to provide infinite amounts of Achievement Points.

That is to say that completing the same achievement 2 days in a row provide us with 9 Achievement Points Daily.

Technically speaking, this seem to be a bug because the same Achievement shouldn’t provide Points everyday only ‘new’ ones you haven’t completed yet, otherwise this create an infinite pool of Achievement Points.

In a year, if someone did their daily everyday they would have 3285 Achievement Points, this without even doing anything else.

The reason I’m posting this is because usually Achievement Points are used as a mean to see how much progress I have done, or for that matter that anyone has done.

Not to mention forcing players to play daily to max their Achievements Points is sad in itself

I hope this is a bug and was not intended has such, to me it feel it defeat the purpose of having Achievement in the first places.

Sincerely,

Seishin Kan

That’s interesting! Maybe they should make it one time or just take away the achivement points and make the goodies the only reward for it hten.

I can’t speak for the dailies, but I have seen some repeatable achievements besides that one. Salvaging (Master of Entropy, I think) is one of them. I think I’ve dinged that one three times. And it’s probably by design, although 9 points seems high for it. I would expect one or two after the initial achieve.

I don’t think that there needs to be (or is) a cap on achievements. There’s no reason you can’t keep acquiring them indefinitely. I just wish that 50 PKs wasn’t part of the monthly. I took me five days to max out everything else for that achieve but I just can’t stomach PvP. I don’t think I’ll ever see that one completed. That bothers me too since I love achievements. Sitting at 1050 now.

I think they shouldn’t be the exact same set of attachments every day. If they were varied it would make more sense to give points everyday

If anything I would just like to know if it was intended has such or if it’s a bug.

Personally, I think it is a bug.

I doubt they overlooked this. Pretty safe to say it’s working as intended – you rack up more points if you’re more active, simple.

I’m concerned about this too.

I can’t speak for everyone, but to me, the psychology behind an achievement system is very specific. Via the achievement system, the game should be telling you “There are 1000 challenges to complete in this game, and you have done 18 of them.” It’s a way to measure how much of the game you’ve “beaten,” which is especially compelling — to some players — in an MMO, where sometimes the game lacks obvious direction.

If a source of infinite Achievement Points exists, I feel like the system is poorly designed. GW2 goes a long way to accommodate the achievement-oriented player: when you look at the map, for example, they tell you how many vista points you’ve visited, and how many you haven’t. Imagine if instead, they had a system where the map keeps track of how many vista visits you’ve done in your character lifetime, with no cap. Infinite vista point points. Every time you went to any vista point, the number would increase by 1.

To some players, this might seem fine. Sure, the number keeps track of how avid of a vista seeker you are. But it doesn’t fulfill the current function of driving people to hunt down every last vista point in the game, which is great fun.

I think the idea of only rewarding the daily achievement points once, but continuing to give rewards on successive days in the form of money, xp or other items is a good one. It would be great if we could hear a developer chime in on this.
