Guild Wars 2

So recently something went terribly wrong with my game. I have no idea what caused this but guild wars 2 is not able to let me open webpages through the client (Redirecting to PayPal for a gem purchase, the /wiki command won’t do anything and clicking on any link in the patcher won’t work). Whenever I try to do any of these the game freezes for a couple seconds and then nothing happens afterwards. I am running windows 10 with Gw2 on windows 7 compatibility mode. After having contact with the support I found out that having Google Chrome as your default browser makes these issues happen. After switching default browsers it worked again although I’d like to keep Google Chrome as my default browser and I’m not sure what to do. Clearing cache etc didn’t resolve this issue either

Yeah I was going to say there would be something wrong with your default browser (either it’s not set properly or not set at all) but since you said you are on Win 10 and I heard there is some “issues” related to default browser in it I can’t give much suggestions to help. From what I know Win 10 has some troubles when “trying” to set the default browser (it’s stubborn and keeps trying to use built-in one) so I would suggest doing as support said for now, it seems it’s something up with Win 10 actually.

Yeah well the thing isn’t trying to set Google Chrome as the default because that actually works, it’s Guild wars 2 not being able to prompt websites whenever my default browser is chrome. whenever it’s edge or internet explorer it’s totally fine. I’ll try reinstalling chrome and see if that works

There is a little bug/feature in win 10. When you change default browser you need to set it by default with browser popup and then in windows default app settings menu. Sometimes if you skip second part windows will get confused because chrome says that he is default but default browser in windows settings is still edge.

Good tip. I knew about the bug, but didn’t know how to “fix” things except to advise people to use a different browser. Thanks.

The problem is not setting chrome to default, that’s perfectly fine. the problem is whenever chrome IS the default that these commands/links or whatever won’t work. it will freeze gw2 and not open the web page like it should. whenever Edge is the default it DOES open the links so it’s definitely something within Google Chrome

I can also say that this issue is true with specifically Chrome. I’ve properly switched default browsers multiple times within Windows 10 . The only way links or PayPal opens for me within the game is if Edge or IE is the default and NOT Chrome. Unsure due to recent build of chrome + windows 10 or specifically windows 10.

Can someone confirm if this is a windows 10 issue or just google chrome alone

Well, I changed the default back to google chrome today and surprisingly everything works again
