Q:
Does Anet Even Know?
I hope they know now. Getting so bad I gave up and went to a different game.
Yeah they haven’t released a single statement which is a BAD PR move. This is the third night this week that I (and most of my server) has given up and started to play different games. This is critical time for them with Wildstar and ESO coming out, and they are failing horribly.

They have said stuff about this network problem. Unfortunately this is happening right now to OTHER gaming MMO servers as well.

This article is a good read and really helps understand how these DDoS attacks on the world internet is happening.

Couple of nights ago they said they kept us updated via their Twitter feed. So I just looked at it, not a murmer :/
They are aware of this, I think they merged topics the other day, but they did post around 10 posts about this lag, look up on the forum before attacking them because now it makes you look like a… anyway
If it’s a Ddos, there is nothing they could do but wait until the attack is over.
there’s a lot of speculation about “kitten trolling”, now if it’s true or not nobody knows, lets just hope for the best.
Here’s the thing – I don’t care if they are merging topics because I want an ALERT in my face if that’s what’s going on. DDoS attacks or not it’s not hard to say “Sorry guys our servers are getting hit by a DDoS attack. We are currently working on the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.” I look for the Red Anet Tag on posts to see what the Devs are saying about things. I don’t scour this forum for answer because IT’S HUGE and their search option isn’t good at all because it starts searching before you finish typing. So for those of us who don’t want to dig and would rather get an answer – having a post on THE FRONT PAGE wouldn’t be that hard if you ask me.
What do you want them to tell you? You already know it’s lagging, and if you have a guild or went to LA then you know it’s not on your end, if it’s a technical problem on their part, then I just told you that they were having troubles a few days ago and it is happening again, that’s how conversation works, you don’t need a red flag to be sure on what’s happening, you can use your own logic, and be aware that if it’s a Ddos then there’s nothing they can really do, it all depends on the quality of their servers and how much GB/s they can handle, so I do not think they could “work on the issue”, unless they manually reset the servers and risk a rollback which would be way worse than your 30 minute lag right?

If you are so needy that you want a red post everytime that something unexpected happened in your game, then i’m sorry but they are not your slaves, they have devs online 24/7 so yes, to answer OP, they are aware of the issue. Now i’m gonna redirect you to a red post that says clearly that they are aware of the lag: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Scarlet-hit-the-servers-or-what/first
I’m debating on actually starting a thread that simply will help Anet tally exactly how many people are leaving this game because of their egotistical corporate neglect. They USED TO BE way nicer people until NCSoft bought them out – now their kinda just – well…jerks. I know i’m certainly not happy about this at all and if I was running a corporation i’d fire every single person who didn’t say “Hey, maybe we should tell them this is what’s up”. You just don’t ignore people like that – regardless of money – it’s just wrong and absolutely pathetic imo.
You know, ArenaNet was acquired by NCSoft in 2002, so I am wondering how well you knew them before ‘NCSoft bought them out’. Considering Guild Wars launched in 2005, I guess they weren’t ‘nicer people’ during any of their games’ lives…according to your reckoning, anyway.
The lag is cause by server problems, and Arenanet is aware of that. Unfortunally, Arenanet doesnt own their own servers (almost no company still does that). They hire them from bigger company’s. The big advantage is that you can buy more capacity very quick and easy, and can ditch thatcapacity with the same push of a button.
The company they use to hire the servers from is a big player in that market, and is currently being hit by what media are calling the biggest DDoS attack ever (Always wonder how they measure that, but lets agree it is a big one )
So yes, they are aware of it but can’t do a lot bout it cause it is a third party that have to solve this.

Love how people spout out information that they are guessing on….
I visit companies everyday that have their own datacenters (and own their servers) as most fortune 500 companies do (my company has 1000s of servers onsite at our headquarters). Sure they may buy some servers in the cloud, or more commonly own the hardware at a third party’s location. So how you came to the conclusion that next to no one owns their own servers anymore is rather comical. Especially since getting third party vendors to patch your machines is a nightmare.
And yes there has been an NTP reflection attack hitting major DNS servers of the internet backbone, but my guess is that they don’t have to rely heavily on DNS (although they might be using DNS if their load balancers are dynamic as opposed to static) and when it comes to running a tracert or pingpath, you are using the IP and not the DNS hostname of their servers so the DNS servers being slow shouldn’t affect you that much. And it is the largest attack known to date (used to be the spamhaus DDoS) and it is measured in the peak traffic flow which was clocked at 400Gb/s. So that’s how they measure it.
