Is this something that can be fixed or should I just give up on helms if I want my character to look manly?

First remark:
You can add images in here by using an attachement to your post. If you have to use outside hosting sources, please udnerstand that the game and also the forum is ment for 12 years and older. The hosting site you used is showing 18+ adds. It is unneeded to use a source like that and inapropiate for this whole report.

Second remark: This happens actually a lot with any head item. My main character (a female engineer)has beautifull long red hair, but when she puts e.g. on the Witch’kitten she suddenly appears bald.

It’s a long standing bug but I think Arenanet is aware of it. I think they are trying to avoid it as much as possible, but they can’t always avoid it. The dragon helmet jaws would havehad clipping issues anyways. and the clipping avoid filter is very likely causing this.

I wish the just edited the Draconic Helm which doesn’t seem to have problems with beards as can be seen in this wiki image.

Thing is, GW2 is free to play, and they are delivering more content for free every month. This means they have to sacrifice. Testing and adjusting looks for all facial looks is incredible time consuming, so they prolly have an anti clipping system in place. if a helmet is sclipping through the beard it must be blocking it from view, so remove it. The speed in wich they have to deliver more free content results in this.

First off it is not Free to play, you still need to buy the game so you are wrong.

I understand. I just thought I’d make a post to let them know. I am sure there is one already. I am not expecting it to be fixed right away I just hope they are looking into it as a fix for the future.

It isn’t something that will stop me from playing the game or from spending money on Gem store.

I’m disappointed that I transmuted my previous helm to the Dragon Helm not knowing I would have facial hair issues. I kinda wish I hadn’t transmuted now…

I hadn’t had any other issue and was indeed politely helping you with the things you can reasonable expect from arenanet (wich is nothing at all if you read between the lines of my comment).

I reported this bug in game too…I hope they’ll fix it, I think that’s simple because a lot of other helmets had beards so why not this too?

Same issue here, and it makes zero sense; my character’s facial hair is the small goatee, which doesn’t even come close to clipping through the helm. I’m sure it will be fixed soon, and I’m glad to see there was already a thread for this and hopefully the devs are aware of the problem.

In regard to the comments about the game being Free to Play so we shouldn’t expect bug fixes, that’s a load of trash. The distribution and payment method of the game has no bearing on bug fixes. ArenaNet has fixed problems like this in the game before, and it’s only a matter of time before they fix this.

You are aware that they can have people working on more than one thing at a time and finding bugs does not mean content development grinds to a halt, right? Jumping into threads that are reporting an issue and telling folks to just pipe down and accept it because that’s just the supposed price of playing a F2P game helps no one. Is this your canned response to all bug report threads?

Edit: In response to Mercury’s latest post: What a nasty comment to make to someone who takes exception at your flippant (and frankly, naive) dismissal of his valid bug report. “It’s F2P, deal with it” is such a useless comment to make, and your comment about the OP’s lack of friends is just ugly and uncalled for.

Count me as +1 Friend of Kos Luftar, then.

We should start a hair collection drive for the lost beards by this helm atrocity.

I was also disappointed to see that. My Norn looks horrible without his beard. The Primeval helm that I spent gems on had a clipping error with my beard. You could see my beard poking through the helm… looks equally bad. I haven’t worn it since Christmas, I wonder if they just disabled beards on helms to fix that?

We should all send a package containing a beard to Anet headquarters each time we lose a beard in game.

It’s not a bug. It’s a deliberate design decision to prevent clipping. You don’t want to see long flowing locks growing out of your helmet’s back plate.

That said, I would absolutely love to see this improved on. I love the asura t3 light headpiece, but his hair goes away and he becomes bald, which is even worse than a lot of the other examples because the top of his head is exposed. And his ears disappear completely whenever he puts on a hood!

However, fixing this completely would take a lot of work. They’d have to account for every hair style in combination with every headpiece. That’s probably thousands of combinations.

Yeah strangely it doesn’t seem like it’s consistent.
Charr will have their horns out but asura have their ears tucked in. Weird.

Again, because there seems to be some misunderstanding here (this is like the third post about the wrong issue):

This is NOT about hair in general (as in, from the top/back of your head). This is about FACIAL hair. Indeed, most MMOs remove hair when your character puts on a helment, in order not to have it clip through like crazy. This is normal, expected, has been in the game since the beginning, and will never go away. We understand that.

This is about FACIAL hair with a VERY specific (and recently added) item in the game. There is no reason at all why this particular helmet should remove facial hair when most other headgear pieces do not. In particular, this helmet has an open chin, so it would clip facial hair minimally, if at all. It’s pretty obvious that this is not the intended behaviour, and that the “remove facial hair” flag was probably (and mistakenly) left in.
