Ebon Vanguard Greatsword preview buys weapon
Maybe I am crazy, but I think this happened to me too, but with a different item. I previewed the Heavy Whispering Boots (all of the Heavy Whispering stuff at the same time actually) from the karma dealer outside the Gates of Arah in Cursed Shore. A little later I noticed that the boots were in my inventory and 42k karma was gone.
I figured at the time that I just double clicked it by accident (though it made me feel crazy because I really did not think I had).
In my case, fortunately, this is ultimately the armor set that I am going for, so it is alright, but if it is a bug it could potentially be a bad one for somebody. That’s a lot of karma.

I’ve had the same problem with T3 Cultural Armor.
I preview the chest, BAM, bought it for 30g.
I made a post about it, no response.
I made a ticket about it, no response.
I doubt any of us will get our karma/gold back. No doubt this will make people leave the game faster because losing a big amount of gold like this spoils the game.
All I do now is sPvP because this is kitten and cba to do any more grinding. I will just lose my money with bugs like this.
I’ve accidentally purchased a couple of items because my mouse was acting up, wearing out and double-clicking when I only mean to single-click, and I have since replaced it with no more problems.
Check to make sure it’s not your hardware.

I really don’t know why you bother with this game if this is really how you feel. Your post is drivel and adds nothing to the conversation.
I had that problem with light shoulder armor on my ranger. Screwed out of your karma have a nice day was pretty much the answer i got. Currently A-net has no way to replace or fix anything on your account.

I did post about this in the suggestions forum. I thought adding a confirm button to karma vendors was a good idea, but that post got shuffled away with no feedback to the bottom ranks of the forum. I figured I must be the only person with this problem. I lost 20,000 karma because of this crap. Now I refuse to use a Karma vendor unless I know exactly what I’m buying when I open the window. I know 20,000 isn’t the end of the world, but when you are saving up for a Legendary it is a frustrating setback.
Yeah it is, they should have put a confirmation button in for karma and token vendor’s.

I had this problem, too. I accidentally bought the Durmand Priory’s Greatsword when previewing, for like 6 gold. I was really kitten because I was saving up for the Norn T2 Armor, which is about 8 gold. Turns out it was my Razer Naga randomly double-clicking. This seems to be a rather common bug with this mouse. If you use the same mouse or another mouse that is known for this problem I would suggest binding a second key to left-click. I went with one of the buttons on the side of the mouse.
Once you’ve done that, always use that key instead when it’s about to get expensive.
I’ve had no problems since, my mouse is still double-clicking from time to time but that’s okay.
Yup, double clicking mouse, screwed me over a few times, but i’ve learned to work around it.

Btw when is karma going to be account bound, we have WvW badges i think it’s only fair for karma it to be account bound
I lost 9.8k Karma myself this way. At the time I assumed it was my mouse, which has developed a ‘double-click’ fault. Does anyone else here own a Razer mouse? It’s a well-known fault with them apparently.
Don’t know, but my Razer Naga has never had this problem, so I may be lucky…
Anyway, by reading the topic title I was thinking you wanted to talk about the little portrait Greatsword has. I hope they fix it cause it makes it look a normal weapon :P
I also lost 70k in Karma because of this -_- was not impressed

I was wondering, will we be able to re-sell our accidently bought pieces to regain (at least some % of) the Karma lost? I’d really like at least some of my 42K Karma back:/
Nonetheless, it’s great you want to do something about the issue
The solutions I can think of are:
1. Option to have a confirmation-promt when buying (anything, gold/karma/tokens/gems/other).
2. Have a “safe-window” sell-back (as with buy-back), either using a time-limit or “on-leaving-vendor” or something similar.
Most other games I know already have this, even Dota2 :P , so It’s great to hear something similar will be added
Please do not add a confirmation box to Obsidian shards.
I hope instead of a confirmation. Make life easier and add one of those boxes that ask how many you would like to buy.
So, it makes double clicking on obsidian shards easier.
As well as not making any “double clicking” mistakes to happen.

If you’re implementing such a button, please do so for dungeon-set vendors as well.
I “bought” a medium armor hat from TA on my warrior. Didn’t even preview it. Didn’t preview any medium armor or hat, let alone buy it. But my client was acting up at the time I had the vendor-window open. Lagspikes of >1 second all over the place. Shortly after, I found that I was missing 180 tokens but I had a unwearable, soulbound hat in my inventory.
Oh, and refunds are obviously not possible.
I sent in a ticket about this in the first week of release. -.-
Why are you allowed to buy soulbound-on-acquire non-equipable items anyway? There is literally no reason for this.
This is why I keep my gold in the bank. Have done this far to often in other games. Now if we could bank karma that’d be good too.
The confirmation window should have been in at launch. And the devs should keep in touch with the type of issues players are dealing with trough tickets/customer support. Many people have been reporting this for weeks. I’ve had an open ticket for 13 days and the only thing they said before passing my case to “the right people” was that they don’t have the tech to solve it. Which I can’t believe.
My only question is how did John Peters or any other dev/designer finds about this now? Do they not have communication with the people who handle tickets?
This worries me.
While you’re at adding a confirm button, please consider adding the possibility for selecting an amount of the item to buy. Clicking on a use item 500 times is work enough, having to slide down to click confirm as many times is torture.
I don’t get how people keep doing this. Who’s using left mouse to preview? Its right mouse click, preview. Never once have I bought something by “mistake”
This exact thing happened to me and I bought the Vigil Greatsword for 5.5g’s!!!! Right clicked preview, left click on preview…boom bought. 5.5g’s is a ton to me!!!
I just had this happen too. Was in the Order of Whispers HQ on my elementalist, taking a look at the items, decide to preview the three armor sets.
Look in my bag, there’s a heavy chest and gloves, and I’m down to 12 silver. Yeah, I was poor before (3g ftw!) but now I’m completely broke.
Sent in a bug report, hoping they can do something about it. I’d rather have 3g than two pieces of armor I can’t use.
Just happened to me a THIRD time….42,000 karma goodbye. Previewed a light armor piece on my warrior and it bought it. I can literally do nothing with this piece. I can’t wear it, transmute it, sell it…42,000 karma goodbye.
ArenaNet, make me whole please, this is horrible it’s happening and even worse customer service for not making us whole.
i think at this point it’s hard for them to “reimburse” in-game currency or the like. hopefully someday soon there will be a way. and hard for us to prove that we did infact “purchase” items, even if by accident or a bug. unless if they store all that data on their servers..
best thign right now, is to just be EXTRA careful and don’t ever rush. i think the vendor system in-game is a little bugged though. i bought a full set of armor once, gold was gone, but didn’t get all the items. my fault for clicking each item fast though, but maybe it couldn’t keep up or something. so i only got 4 pieces out of 6, but gold for 6 pieces was gone. and yes, i did count.

Wouldn’t be so bad if there was a window where we can sell the item back to the vendor for full value, that way if we did end up with a bag full of items we can’t use we can at least fix it.
As it is, you can’t sell the items at all, so there’s nothing that can be done except toss it in the mystic forge and hope you win the jackpot.
