I’ve searched but couldn’t find this issue mentioned anywhere.

Since a couple of days I’ve been getting empty lines in my chat window, they only have a timestamp and no player name, channelname (m/s/t etc.) and no text.

It appears to be happening every couple of minutes at random intervals. I’ve tried logging on and off, changing areas and changing my chat settings but it didn’t help.

It’s pretty annoying since it happens so frequently that normal chat is often scrolled up too fast to read.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I’ve had that in the northern parts of Bloodtide Coast, nowhere else. And yeah, they’re really distracting.

I know this is about four months old, but the bug is still there, I just got it, and at the northern part of Bloodtide Coast as well, nowhere else.

I think this is caused by nearby crabs (Ornery/Hermit Crab neutral mobs) waving their claws about to warn you off before they go hostile. Look around when you notice it happen and see if there’s one nearby waving at you.

Still having this issue, noticed it in Bloodtide Coast as well. Must be a greytext thing then as you guys said. I kind of figured that was the case. Even for an NPC emote though, it comes up quite often, sometimes putting large spaces in the chat window.

Bit of an oddity, but I’m fine with it now that I’m pretty sure I know the culprit.

I’m still seeing this happen in Bloodtide Coast. Its quite annoying. I hate to necro bump, but this is the only place I’ve found this mentioned.

I have seen this issue some times but I can’t recall where it happens and when. I just saw some blank lines appeared on chat and I couldn’t find a recurring event to relate it to.

This definitely seems to be caused by crabs. I’ve noticed it in mainly in Southsun Cove and Bloodtide Coast. At first I thought a friend was trying to mess with me by saying it was the crabs but sure enough, every time it happens there are crabs nearby.

I also get these random lines of empty chat. They seem to be emotes (disappear if you choose not to display emotes in chat atleast) and so far I’ve only ever experienced them in Bloodtide Coast, in the north part. I can get 3-4 lines of empty chat in one go and then nothing for a minute or two..

If you find the Ornery Crabs in Bloodtide, look at them and walk towards them. They will stop and wave their claws at you and the lines appear immediately. Its DEFINITELY the crab emote, but its a little annoying. Could we get some text put on that emote so we know what its doing? like “Ornery Crab threatens <Char Name>.”

Causes by crabs, yes, and you can /threaten @ them to shut them up.

I could definitively confirm the source. It’s caused by Ornery Crabs. I was just swimming at Boodtide Coast when an empty line appeared on chat. Then I went looking for crabs as it was said on this thread. So soon I approached that Ornery Crab shown on the picture, 3 more empty lines appeared in chat (look chat window in the pic) and the crab waved at me, then it became aggro and attacked me (that’s why pic shows me fighting :P) I was going to send in a in game report when it attacked me, so I could not do more than take this picture only.
