I’ve been running Frozen Maw event in Wayfarer Foothills a lot recently and something odd has been happening. After completing my third or fourth Frozen Maw chain on a character, I will hit a DR (Diminishing Returns) “cliff” and the rewards granted from the events drop sharply. If I Teleport to another zone, such as Queensdale, to do more event farming, my first couple events will have DR applied to them. I can’t tell if my character is being slammed by a timer penalty or a by-region penalty. If it were by-region, you’d think teleporting to a completely different region would give a clean slate, but it doesn’t.

One thing I’ve noticed is that for each event I complete that has DR applied to it, I’ll have to “work off” that “debt” by doing events in another zone. If I’ve done 5 DR’ed versions of Frozen Maw events, I’ll have to do 5 events in Kryta or Ascalon before the DR will lift. Is this intended? Or is my server-hopping causing some sort of anomaly?

Repro steps:

1. Pick a character level 10+ and log in.
2. Teleport to Krennak Homestead WP in Wayfarer Foothills.
3. Complete Frozen Maw event chain when it pops.
4. After completing that chain, guest to another server and do the event again.
5. Repeat step 4 until DR penalty kicks on on events.
6. Do a few more Frozen Maw events, about 4-5 or so, while the DR is active.
7. Teleport to Ascalon or Kryta, any map.
8. Do events.
9. Observe DR affecting your events.

I should also add that this DR cannot be cleared by changing characters. In my case I hopped on a character that I had not played for at least a week, immediately teleported from the Frozen Maw area (without doing any events in Shiverpeaks) to Queensdale. I did about 5 events in Queensdale, all of which suffered from DR penalties. I then teleported to Ascalon and killed the harpies near Smokestead. DR still affected my events. I then ran into the flame legion shaman cave and killed braziers, which finally granted me a non-DR’ed reward fit for a level 50+ Thief.
