Feb Monthly Dungeon: Fractals doesn't count!
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
I could be wrong, but it might because Fractals are “infinite” so you can’t really “complete” them for the achievement. That’s just a guess, though, so I might very well be wrong.

mister vaughn sorry if this could sound inapropriate… but due to your many “ironic” posts in the last week… do we have to take this reply as a:
1) work as intended, we (a-net) don’t want fractal to count as completed dungeons and evertyhing else I wrote was just an “inronic” humore joke
or
2) This is just a guess that I will forward to the apropriate staff to investagate this bug because fractal “level completation” should count toward the monthly achivement
please clearly state if option 1 or 2 is correct… or if there is a 3d option that I missed in your post…
Thanks
Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be ironic at all, I was being honest. I’m not 100% certain, but looking at the wording of the achievement, you have to “complete” a dungeon, which doesn’t really apply to Fractals.
That’s a rather literal interpretation isn’t it? To a player, any dungeon, including Fractals, represents a certain commitment of time. I fail to see the difference in “completing” a level’s worth of Fractals and “completing” an Explorable Mode path in any other dungeon…you play on and beat stuff until you’re kicked out.
I suppose if adjusting the Monthly to count Fractals is not an option, perhaps adjusting the wording of the task from “Monthly Dungeon Participation” to “Monthly Non-Fractal Dungeon Participation” would help clear it up. Or perhaps instead of the “Delve too deep” flavor text, may I suggest “Delve too deep, just not into Fractals of the Mists, because you aren’t getting credit and stop whining already you crazy players you.” Or is that too long to fit?
Fractals have never counted as Dungeons in the past (November 2012 monthly had both Fractals and Dungeon requirements as separate tracks).
The game considers them two very different things – and has implemented them as two very different things. We wouldn’t have had issues with cross-world Fractals or reconnection after disconnect if Fractals were “Dungeons” in code-terms.

What does ‘completing’ a dungeon mean? Do the story mode? Do all explorable paths? I’ve never done dungeons, 5 seems doable if it’s SM or if one explorable counts, but if I have to do all 3 explorable paths I’d like to know so I can write off the monthly now.

We do not complete Fractals?
Hmmm… I think I found an exploit then, because when I kill Vile Maw, the fractal ends!

Fractals and Dungeons have been separate in the monthly rotation in the past (I think one month we had both at once,) so this is nothing new. Considering that Fractal Frequenter has been in the rotation 3 months in a row, I think it’s fair that they don’t count this month.

Complete a single path, and Story mode counts as one path. So doing 5 story modes would give credit for 5 dungeons. You can also complete the same path multiple times for multiple credit.

We had a monthly in the past where you had to do dungeons AND fractals and fractals only advanced fractals but not dungeons – so this is not new.

Yup, the fractal ends!
And when it ends, you’re 1/∞ closer to completing Fractals of the Mists.

But you’ve also finished a “path”, which is why I think it should count. Either completing a fractal level (all 3 fractals), or completing the jade maw one should count as 1 for the achievements, in my opinion.
Please give us a keyring…
The game has actually never considered Fractals of the Mist as a dungeon in the usual sense, it never gave you any guild Influence for it.

No it doesn’t, the level just increases one and you keep going. It only ends because you flee from the hub and don’t want to complete more. /lored
That said, in-game has always treated Fractals separately from dungeons. They’ve always had their own tracks, and they’ve never counted for each other’s tracks. When it says dungeons, it means dungeons that aren’t Fractals of the Mists. While that might seem counterintuitive at first, it’s just sort of how it is right now. I wouldn’t call this a bug, I’d call this working as intended. If ANet wants to change this in the future, then by all means.
whats so hard to understand , fractals dont count , move along ,
why everyone have to make it always so difficult, you dont pay to play , so stop the QQ
Thanks for the clarification, Mr. Vaughn. Kind of a shame really since I enjoy running Fractals a lot more compared to the original dungeons; but from a technical standpoint, I can see how it’s not considered a “dungeon”. Maybe we should stop talking about Fractals in the Dungeon forum, and talk more about Mr. Hrouda’s Norn-like stature . LOL!
Jokes aside, I guess it’s not much of a big deal since it’s only five paths to complete over the course of 28 days, as opposed to a 100 events (which still isn’t hard but that’s another thread to talk about all together). Since I run dungeons a lot with my guild, getting that done shouldn’t take long.
No verbal hostilities needed from both sides of the argument. All I wanted was just a simple answer. Thanks again!

Some of the wording is a bit odd, for example it says to complete a daily category (which admittedly seems like a small requirement for a monthly), so one would logically conclude that it means one of the five subsections of a daily, but that’s not actually the case. You have to finish an entire daily, so the monthly requirement is to complete 5 dailies, which makes more sense despite not really being what it says.
I think wording it like “Complete X/X Dungeon Paths” would be a lot clearer for the dungeons, and dropping the word “category” from the daily req would do the same (I see people asking why when they complete a daily category it doesn’t show up on the monthly).
Sure the problem is solved as soon as they finish a daily, but they may have already submitted a bug report or 3 by that point.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

Hmm John Smith mentioned the Daedalus Project in another thread so I was reading a bit about it. Your post made me wonder if Mr. Hrouda actually plays a giant Norn or an teensy Asura.
100 events is just 20 dailies.

I was thinking the same thing earlier while doing today’s daily but if you look at the Achievements window it becomes fairly obvious how “category” got in there. The monthly does in fact say what it means. The categories are “Daily”, “Daily PvP”, “Monthly”, “Monthly PvP”, etc.
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
Um, I see what you mean, but the wording on the monthly page is still ambiguous
It reads: 1/1 Daily Category Complete (emphasis mine)
Which implies that the requirement is for one of the categories from the daily, or I suppose from the PvP Daily.
If it meant that either the Daily or the PvP Daily main categories could be completed towards the Monthly “Daily Category” req, then the text should read something like:
1/1 Daily/PvP Daily Complete
Just because something seems to make sense in hindsight (because we’ve already figured out what it means) doesn’t mean people looking at it for the first time aren’t going to be confused.
I mean, both you and I had to figure it out. People shouldn’t have to “figure out” something like that.

Fractal doesnt count on Monthly achievement!
I had to hurry to do 2 more dungeon in the last hours till monthly resets, and coz Fractal doesnt counted in the monthly, I lost the whole achievement!
As fast as possible, I did an other one dungeon after the long fractal run, and we successfully finished it in the same minute as monthly achievement resetted, so I lost all of my efforts about monthly!
I missed only 1 more dungeon!
Thank you… (angry smile)

fact 1.: Fractals act as a chain of dungeons.
fact 2.: Achievement description doesn’t mention that this means all of the dungeons, except fractal.
fact 3.: The List of dungeons of the official Guild Wars 2 wiki contains Fractals as well.
fact 4.: It clearly seems to me, arena.net wouldn’t take any responsibility for any missed achievements reward occured by that issue.
