Nobody has found this item since the game’s inception, and it seems like it probably wasn’t added to the game. Can someone from ArenaNet check, as the previous communication (“Found in large boss chest”) doesn’t seem to be true? Thanks!

After 4 months and millions of people playing, and nobody finding it, it’s pretty safe to say it hasn’t been added to the loot tables. Since Lindsey Murdock, items designer at Arenanet, thinks it should have been (and nobody found it for months after that confirmation as well), I thought it would be a good idea for a little checkup/confirmation.

Can’t you guys throw us a bone or something? Since it is a gaygorle staff, i assume it comes from one of those risen knights. But i don’t remember if there is a champion version of them

On the bright side, if you find out where to get it, you can keep it to yourself and make a mint on the Trading Post. It has never been posted there before, after all this time… sell it for 200 gold first, then 2000, then 20000. Muahaha!

The weapon is soulbound on acquire. You cannot sell it. In fact, people might have gotten the staff but never said anything.

I’m not distrusting you Jeffrey but according what Lynsey’s pm, it was mentioned a LARGE boss chest, not a monster loot drop.

Not true for this (PvE) version! The chat codes are:

[&AgGgSwAA] – PvE Version (Final Rest), Soulbound on Use

As I recall there was some speculation that it may have been a chest from the last boss during the quest ‘Escort Warmaster Leddron’ in the Straits of Devastation.

Me and a guildmate found the start of the quest which was in a pretty remote area, but the quest was apparently bugged and the group we were supposed to escort didn’t move. They were all just standing at the entrance of some ruins that led to a couple of rooms.

according to the wiki (linked in the OP) it’s a certain event in straits of devastation. i just went there to check if it’s running, and it is.. but it is bugged. if most servers have this event bugged/stalled/blocked (just like tons and tons of other events), it’s no wonder no one has obtained this weapon yet.

i reported the bug for what it’s worth (i’m sure other people have done it before me), but it’ll probably take another 6-12 months to get fixed.

i reported the bug for what it’s worth (i’m sure other people have done it before me), but it’ll probably take another 6-12 months to get fixed.

It’s not bugged, I just ran it like 4 times without a problem:

Step 1: Destroy 10 coffins in the catacombs and kill 3 veterans. One Abomination spawns to the East, one Noble to the West, and one Wraith in the middle.

Step 2: Go to the swamp and wait about 15-60 minutes for the “Destroy the Anti-Air Cannon” event to start, then destroy the cannon so the team can land.

Step 3: Escort the team back to the catacombs. You need to kill at least one Veteran Priest of Melandru up on the plateau in order to kill the Champion Abomination that you’ll run into on that route (just North of the spot with a “3” on the map).

After that it’s just a simple matter of killing everything in your way to finish the event chain, concluding with a fight against an Eye of Zhaitan and a dragon-event-sized chest. Don’t get too disappointed if all you get are blues, that’s all anyone I’ve run it with has gotten (which sucks because it’s ridiculously hard, and you’ll almost never find people around to do it).

Yeah it seems like that tends to happen on a lot (all?) events on rare occasions. I ran through the whole chain again just now, no problems at all (except for the blues… those sad, sad blues…)

It’s hard to get anything now when loot is nerfed So good luck finding it

Thank you for taking your time to answer. However, your reply has created a bit of confusion. Is it looted from a chest that spawns after killing the boss or is it a loot drop from the body of the boss?

Are we also correctly assuming that this staff has not been dropped yet?

Whereas finding it would remove that “reason to keep looking”. In other words, the non-existent staff is doing its job wonderfully.

Just because it’s not bugged in your server doesn’t mean it’s not bugged in several others. On my server, for about two weeks, the NPCs in question were simply standing still at the entrance to the catacombs, while the event text told us to “defend them as they look for artefacts” (i.e., typical stuck escort event).

Anyway, there is no evidence that the staff is in any way related to that event.

So far, it’s neither. I don’t think it has ever dropped for anyone, anywhere. And it doesn’t appear in the trading post even if you disable “show only available”. So either it binds on pickup (unlikely, if it’s a chest drop) and has never dropped for anyone, or it’s bugged and not actually available in PvE.

Also, AFAIK, there are no other pieces of gear in the game that drop only from one place; even legendary precursors can drop from dozens of different locations.

The text in the wiki is an almost direct cut & paste of a forum post made by a player. That was just his personal theory, there is no evidence to back it up.

I’ve done that event chain dozens of times (it’s easily soloable, in fact, it just takes a while), and I know several other people who have, as well. There are no references to gargoyles, staves or “final rests” in the NPC dialogue, and the most I ever saw drop from the final chest was a couple of greens.

Incorrect, there are multiple pieces that are one location drops only.

Exotic Jewelcrafting recipes from dungeon bosses (Howling King, Colossus Rumblus, etc)
Wisteria (Focus, from Giant Wurm in Caledon only)
Etc.

These are just a few examples (if they arent in fact unique and can be obtained elsewhere, please, do let me know).
