I was initially excited about receiving the Flames of Kryta item – a torch for dark places – except it doesn’t seem to shed any light at all when brought into dark places?
Take, for example, the Weyandt’s Revenge jumping puzzle in Lion’s Arch – I thought that the Flames of Kryta would be ideal for navigating the dark room within that puzzle, but, alas, it sheds no light at all, except the pinprick that identifies the actual “flame.”
Is this working as intended? If so, what point does that item serve, except as yet another piece of costume?

It won’t have any light if your shader settings are set to low.

I use it all the time for that jump puzzle, as its been said by Khisanth, it’s most likely your settings.

It has been reported before and is in the Functionality section of my Tracker – Living Story/Game Update Bugs thread, but there has been no response on the issue from a dev yet.

• Flames of Kryta Torch: Sharkmaw Caverns
  FoK does not give light in the Lion’s Arch Sharkmaw Caverns jumping puzzle area when ‘Shaders’ is set to ‘Low’

I have the same issue with my Flames of Kryta when in the Obsidian Sanctum WvW jumping puzzle. My torch does not provide near enough light as the provided torches do. Nor does it work to light up the wall by the gargoyle.
I’ll try adjusting my Shaders.

My shaders are set to high, and my torch still gives very little light.

It seems to provide the same amount of light as a regular torch weapon. It will also depend on how reflective the surface you are standing on. It is not unexpected that it doesn’t work like the other torch in the Obsidian Puzzle. Flame of Kryta has no skills on it.
