Fort Trinity Portals one way only
Not sure if it still works, but you used to be able to blink through the side of that area to portal, even before doing the personal story.
Which order do you belong to? Usually, there’s an additional NPC you have to chat with before you can reach the gate. I’ve never had trouble using them in both directions. I admit I haven’t used them recently, because I generally prefer to spend the WP silver rather than suffer the additional loading times.

When i talk to the Gate Guard at Vigil HQ, he says “this area is still under construction”, I do not get the queue to show my credentials.
Darn, I was hoping this thread was about something else.
I haven’t had problems with this. My character (who has access to the gates) simply talks to his order representative and is moved through the door so he can use the gate to return to Fort Trinity.
What seems like a bug to me is the fact that I can travel to any Order’s base from Fort Trinity, but can only travel back with the Order I chose earlier in my story. At this point in the story my character is a Commander of the Pact. To not be allowed to use another Order’s gate to travel back to the Pact base seems both odd and silly (and I’m pretty sure some gate guard’s head would be doing the proverbial roll).
I just spent 1s62 to travel to Vigil HQ and chat with the guard. (For Science, money is no object.) No trouble getting into the Asura gate area. (Had a bit of trouble finding it — forgot it had a separate entrance from the HQ instance.)
So, here are things to check:
- Ensure that you actually finished the Battle of Fort Trinity (I’m sure that’s true, but it’s easy to check.)
- Ensure that you joined the Vigil — you can only use your order’s Asura gate (ok, that’s ridiculous lore-wise and only vaguely reasonable balance-wise, but it’s how the game is designed).
If you’ve confirmed you’re a vigil member in good standing and the Fort Trinity asura gates aren’t, erm, blocked by [insert spoilers here], then you’ll have to contact support to start some account-specific troubleshooting.
Good luck.
I have used the portals both ways consistently for a very long time in relation to Orr. However, I have absent myself from Orr for close to a month, so I am not sure what the latest patches have done to the Fort Trinity/Order HQ Asura gates. If I can recall correctly, you have to activate the portals at FT (talking to officer/NPC) after a personal instance that introduce the portals. At that character level the portal is only one way from FT to the 3 Order HQs. I was persistant tho, and I keep returning back to the Order HQs when ever I’d uped a level so that eventually after a number of up levels the officer/NPC at the 3 orders’ HQs have an activation dialogue that allow you to go thru the door where now you can go both ways. Can not remember properly but something like at least 3 levels up.
Interesting. I’ve never seen them used both ways, except for your own order.

You can use them both ways provided you don’t exit the restricted area that houses the gate. Once you leave that small area, you can only gain access to the restricted area around the gate in each order’s base if you’re a member of that order.
Seems pretty silly that you can’t present yourself as the Commander of the Pact forces attempting to return to Fort Trinity ASAP and gain access through any Order’s base. I’d love to see that awkward conversation playing out in real life.

In all seriousness, though, since Illconceived already recommended the two things I would think of, this sounds like a bug. We’ll check it out!

“Um, sir. We know you’re the super-boss and all that, but you came from a different order, so you need to go find a different portal.” /trollface

Yeah, this is pretty silly and gives the Order of Whispers a distinct advantage over the other factions because you can just walk out of Lion’s Arch and take the portal to save on waypoint costs. It’s not worth running to the Vigil or especially Priory bases. They’re just too far.

silence… then “Make sure you are never assigned to Orr. Frontline duty is quite hazardous, if you know what i mean…”
I respectfully suggest that once you reach the end of the story, the portals become two-way.

Your pardon sir, but I am not Vigil commander I am PACT commander. Have you confused the two? Do you mean to suggest that any one of these orders does not fall under my chain of command?

THIS. I can’t emphasize my agreement enough.

Game not letting me complete story Shell Shock. Can someone fix this bug? I get to Durmand Priory or any place Asuran gate is and I cannot use them and I cannot do my story?
