Friendly npcs don't fight
The Devs changed the NPC AI some time ago, so that they were less…aggressive. It’s intended, though the Devs stated they may tweak some instances.

Hi there, everyone. So, i noticed that in many story instances (expecially from the core game story and from the living world season 2 instances) npcs often don’t help during combat as they’re intended to. I know it’s not a big deal because everything can be easily soloed, but i think it can be very annoying sometimes, for example during the battle against the Mordrem Predator in which the player could greatly benefit from the distraction provided by the friendly npcs.
