Gathering with tonic form

Confirmed to be the case. Tested on some non-expensive mats, because i’m not intentionally ruining those >.> Appears anything over T1 mats will return ruined materials while in tonic form…
I think I might even know why this is. Every gathering tool and node is assigned a level. When you use a tool, you briefly swap your weapon out to it, and the node checks against the gather level of your equipped item.. When you’re in tonic form, the tonic overrides your weapon, and it appears it overrides your gathering tools.

except it worked before. And it is still harvesting with the tools, as it even plays the animations. I mean, I even got a watchwork sprocket along with the ruined ore. -_-
Anet changed something and intentionally or not, this is the result. Wouldn’t be surprised if it is intentional

Yeah it did work before. However, this is an area that ANet hasn’t spoken much about: it wasn’t included in the patch notes when they fixed the ruined-while-in-combat bug, as well as other changes made to gathering.
(FYI ‘bonus’ items have always dropped, even if you get ruined items, e.g. dandelion, hidden caches, and — back in the day — unID dyes.)

Yeah, I just added that to show that in fact I had on the pick, and it registered the pick being used.
