Gem Store Login?
Ok, maybe this should be in the bug section… but I think it could become a pretty cool feature.
So, I opened the gem store and it gave me a “You must Log In” (or words to that effect) thing instead. So I clicked Log In… just to see what would happen. And it showed the forum log-in page instead.
Yup. And it also included the header with links to the wiki. So I clicked on them.
And lo and behold, I could see the wiki through the BLTC window. I would assume it’s some sort of server mix-up.
But how handy would it be to be able to access these things without having to tab out?
I have this problem to
Everyone I have spoken to in DR map is having the same issue.
So it’s global eh?
Too many inventory slots for us all
And that explains why the Gem Shop portion of the TP is currently down.
Yes, the TP is actually an in game web browser if people didn’t know that.
RIP City of Heroes
Inventory Slots? What is the current special offer?
Just for the case that it has again something to do with languages: I’m in germany, but have my client set completely to english. So the second language (on pressing right CTRL) is german. This happens without pressing the right CTRL key.
I was wondering if there had been a hack of some sort and was unwilling to put my info in an unusual situation. Glad I’m not the only one that’s seeing this at least.
Per some tweeting, part of the problem seems to lie in those using the German browser and for some people swapping to English fixes it? The tweets aren’t clear if that’s this problem.
I was going to buy some bag slots today, hopefully the shop will be functional during the time I have to do that
Very nice feature – in-game browser). No need to collapse the game window to tape this bug report.
I love the idea, but I don’t think it’s likely (and I’m not sure that ANet is in a good place to work on something like this).
———————————————
As you probably guessed, the TP is just a custom web browser (that is supposed to automagically log you in) as a front end to the API (some of which is accessible via the public API used by sites like GW2 Efficiency).
The wiki and the forum use two different APIs: the wiki’s is open source and the forum uses proprietary code. In both cases, ANet has no control, so they can’t guarantee that what works today will work tomorrow or that it offers any relevant security features.
Supposing we don’t need to login, just browse. Then it’s just a matter of priorities and performance. ANet would have to create new code, maintain it, and ensure that it works well all the time.
Unfortunately, ANet hasn’t shown much aptitude for developing robust web interfaces with the sort of QoL features we’ve grown to know and love and demand. Case in point: the TP itself. It took ages to get the interface we have now and it’s still clunky, still has some performance issues, and still ends up with weird bugs like today’s. (Mind you: the current UI is far & away superior to what we used to have; it’s just also far from ‘great’.)
So I think ANet shouldn’t distract itself from the other important initiatives underway by trying to work on something outside their core areas of expertise.
Or in other words: great idea for for much, much later.

Happening here as well. It could be related to them fixing the issues players experienced when having German Text ingame (People with German Text crashed upon opening the gemstore earlier this weekend). So it’s a possibility that they took it down to fix that issue, or the issue has spread ..
Could we get a response from a Dev, maybe? I am very concerned that the current items on sail will be allowed to pass us by while we wait for this to be fixed.
That’s…really weird. Cool, but weird. I knew the TP interface was actually a browser/website but I didn’t know it could do that.
It would be really cool if they could embed the Wiki into the game somehow. Maybe give us copies of Wikki’s Official Guide to Tyria which act as an interface?

I have the same issue: Gem Store asks me to log in. Logging in doesn’t help. It asks me to log in again.
Ditto, no access to TP. Asking for login. Submitted an in game report.
Same here. Pictures from above accurately reflect what I’m seeing as well.
Same issue. Btw. You rlly deleted the 156 likes post on facebook in your aniversary sales post? lol. If you cant face the truth, provide a functioning gem store, so we can buy your stuff.
“You must login to view this page” ..
RIP gem sales !
Best guess this is a workaround, no automatic login,
no crash.
Very likely just some missing German strings for some new items … they could just ask some of us German players for translation
We will not put in anything naughty, promise!
Can buy/sell and look at the exchange page of the Black Lion but Gem store says “login to view” which dies not work and just loops to “login to view”…
The devs must be uploading mounts!!!
Maybe playable Dwarven race package?!?!?!
Maybe lots of new beards?!?!?!
The suspense is killing me!
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.

Yes same problem here as well. ^^
Also I noticed the Tangled Depths achievement “Connect The Dots” is not doable. Even if I rescue in this order: Rox, Braham, Marjory and Kasmeer I don’t get the achievement.
I have no idea if it’s related or not somehow. Maby it is just a separate bug.
Best regards…

If this is a workaround for the crash of the TP if you use the German language it is not a very good one. As this is a web-page, why not replace it with an explanation? Like: Due to an issue with German translations we had to take down this functionality. It will be restored soon.
Edit: And the page works again for me.

Ditto. Just tried again. All seems well.
It’s working again, or at least I was able to use it to buy gems and then to buy 3 bag slots.
Gemstore isn’t broke, but I am.

Well that’s very strange- I’m not German, nor do I use a german client/browser/anything.
So perhaps the problem extends further- but either way, it was pretty fun to see

I felt similarly, but never actually entered any details.
I clicked on the blue “Log In” thing that appears when the Gem Store bugs out, which then directed me to the forum log in screen (see pic attached). This page has a menu at the top which links to the wiki, support etc so by clicking on those I avoided having to log in.

Actually it is… type /wiki <subject> into the chat box. In game browser pops ups with the relevant wiki article.

That’s not an in-game browser, it just opens a window in your default internet browser. Although maybe that’s not obvious if you’re playing in full screen mode.
I was imagining something more like an in-game menu that looks like a book with the pages filled with text from the Wiki. And when you click a link you’d get an animation of flicking through the pages to the one you selected. Like the Storybooks we collected and filled in GW1.

No, CoherentUI includes a full browser front end built off of webkit. It doesn’t use any installed browser on your system.
RIP City of Heroes
Since the BLTC is just a web site, you can make it display whatever you want. You can also use the same technique to implement your own features into the trading post. Simply run a local web server and redirect one of the pages to it, which you can then configure to do whatever you want.
