Converted some gold to gems to buy repair canisters for myself and a friend, and I was unable to select the username from the gift interface.

The screwed up thing was that I was able to see players who were not even on my friend’s list in the interface….. but not my friend.

wtf?

if your friend is online at the time (and on your friends list), try typing in the character they are using right then. it seems silly, but that is how I got around this issue. the game doesn’t seem to like usernames when gifting to someone who is online :/
