Before I begin, I have already submitted a ticket for this issue.

So, this morning I logged into my account and the normal amount of gold was there (several thousand). I logged out and left the house to do some errands, and when I got back all but 30 gold had disappeared from my account. Once I realized this, I slightly panicked at the thought that I may have been hacked. I logged in and out several more times and to several other characters to see if there were any items lost or changes on my characters and their locations. I also checked my GW2.com account to see recent log-ins or if there were any attempts to change my account. My password remained the same, my log-in info is the same, and recent logins had my IP listed. My gems remained untouched. There were no attempts to have my account info changed during this time. I even had a precursor still safely in my bank and it didn’t look like any other items were removed or moved around. Everything I had of value that could be sold or removed was still there except for the number of gold held on my account. After several instances of me logging in and out over the period of about an hour, I noticed a slight increase in the gold held on my account. I never bought or sold anything on any of my characters during the time I was confirming the integrity of my account, but somehow the gold I held had increased by 1. I had miraculously gone from 30 gold and some silver/copper to 31 Gold and some change. There is only the spouse and I living in our apartment, so there’s no way anyone could have physically logged in to my account at home.

My account is tied to the Google Authenticator, my account info was not changed and there were no attempts to change it, there was only my IP listed as recent logins, and all of my other in game possessions of value remained intact, and items I was buying were still posted, and there was a spontaneous, 1 gold increase in the hour I was confirming the integrity of my account. What the hell happened? Has this happened to anyone else? Was the gold recovered or the account rolled back? If my account gets rolled back, do I lose any progress I make from now until then (e.g. map completion)

If you were to receive an Account Restoration (which is only provided when there is a third-party compromise, and at no other time), you would, indeed, lose any progress made between the time of the Restoration, and the time the account was rolled back to.

You will need work with the CS Team on this issue. (Make sure the integrity of the email account associated with your game account is secure.) Good luck.

Armeni: there’s no mechanism that I know about that would remove gold from your wallet.

It seems to me that you have covered nearly all the other likely avenues for gold to go missing, all the likely clues that someone might have compromised your account, and all the things to check to make sure nothing else is missing. That being the case, I agree with my esteemed colleague, Inculpatus: work with CS and see if they can identify what might have happened.

In the meantime, I don’t see you mentioning two other possibilities (unlikely, but worth checking):

  • The TP: see if there are any recent transactions or buy offers.
  • Personal guild bank: is it possible you moved gold into one of those?

Good luck finding out what happened. And please let us know when you do. I hope it’s something that you’ll be embarrassed to admit, if only because that would mean you found the gold and all is well (instead of any of the uglier possibilities).

Bumping.

A friend is having a very similar issue.

He has the same security procedures and somehow lost a large sum of gold from his account and yet no items of value were even touched

Please let us know of any updates to the case!
Good luck with your account!

I checked my TP transactions and guild bank history, but all looked normal and there were no additions of gold to any of the guilds I am in. I haven’t heard back from customer service, but that’s probably due to the long weekend. I’m hoping they can provide some clarity on a potential bug or tell me if any mail was sent from my account to another.
