Good graphics card but low fps
I have a GTX 980 and I’m receiving 20-30 fps. I attempted to put the resolution lower and it did not help. It was fine until I logged in one day. How do I fix this?
A couple of things spring to mind.
Do you also have an on-board graphics card? It may be that GW is using the on-board rather than the 980. you may be able to change this in the nVidia control panel 3D settings or even right-click icon you may have a graphics properties menu item. These settings tend to affect laptop users more than desktop, but it’s easy to check.
Alternatively your driver may have crashed out/corrupted try uninstalling/re-installing the graphics driver (do a clean install)
Need more info. Cpu maybe? or ram speed? maybe hard drive?

Also resolution.
GW2 is heavily CPU reliant. My GTX 970 barely gets above 50% load while my 3570k is overclocked to 4.3GHz and stays 80-95% load. In large events, I have to turn down the Character Model Limit to Low or Lowest to keep a good framerate.
Turning off Shadows, Shaders, and Postprocessing helps a lot as well.

I have a i5-3570K and I’m running at 1920×1080. As for my RAM speed : http://gyazo.com/097145495b530795eb9143c871994730

I thought that it might be using the on-board graphics card, but when I checked Nvidia control panel, it was set to use the GTX 980. And I don’t think the driver may have crashed because all of my other games run completely fine. I also just upgraded my drivers and am having the same problem.

Wait wait wait. Do you have your monitor plugged into the motherboard or the GTX 980?

Check that the card is running at PCI-E x16, ive seen it so many times on here where people complain about the FPS and good GFX cards etc only to find the PCI-E port is running at x1 instead of x16.

It’s due to the CPU bottlenecking. Even decent processors struggle when there’s a high population of people to render. Turn down or off reflections, reduce shadows, and model character quality and limit to low. You can even turn your shaders down to medium which will help alot and the game won’t look too different. GW2 has really poor optimization for multiple processes going onscreen.
