Graphic problems on outfits (excessive glare)
I also have the same problem. I just recently bought Lyssa’s Regalia outfit (and happy that I have it) but it just seems waaay too shiny on me… I play this game on very low settings and seeing the outfit being too reflective just looks very weird to me. I can’t even see the dark dye colors I’ve added on the colored lining of the outfit because either the sun’s or moon’s light just hits it, making it look white.

It’s been quite a while since I posted about this bug… and as an update, this problem continues to occur on the newer outfits. Even with my shader settings turned off, these outfits display an unpleasant level of glare when equipped, and additionally ruins the dye scheme that I apply to it by making all the colors much brighter and whiter than they should be.
The older outfits do not do this and I have no problems whatsoever when using those, so why are the newer ones ignoring my graphic settings?
Please fix this. I have no desire to purchase your buggy cash shop items out of fear that I will be attacked by a gang of skritt.

Bump, but I can’t find anything else on the subject and didn’t want to start a new thread when this already exists. I’ll check Reddit later.
Same problem. Noticed on the Lyssa outfit but figured that was intentional since a lot of it is metallic. Got a bit ridiculous with Nature’s Oath and Winter Solstice.
Pictured: Crystal Savant outfit. Black/Fluff dyes. Hero menu preview and in-game (near reset Tequatl, so evening in-game time?). Shaders setting is Medium.
What I can only presume on this outfit is cloth should not be super shiny like that. Nature’s Oath shiny things look like they’re meant to be bone/wood which… really should not be oil slick shiny either.
I believe SweetFX or ReShade may be able to do what you are asking for. Unfortunately, I’ve never made customs settings before, so I can’t really help you there… maybe their forums will have some help.
I noticed this with some jumping puzzles or other areas of the game, I can’t think of any but did in-game reports. Where somewhat dark areas of the game have been turned excessively bright.
@blau, you might want to kill the bloom shader, so try to turn off your post processing. Bloom is mostly responsible for overexposure of bright colors. See how that looks for you.
It’s also true that some outfits or their parts don’t react to shader settings and remain with the same set of materials on them. As of now it’s Lyssa’s, Lunatic Guard’s, Crystal Savant/Arbiter, Slayer’s.
As for what material is used for which parts, that’s the artistic vison of the maker, so…
In light of more buggy outfits coming out, I figure I would re-awaken this thread again… again…
I am still having problems with the new outfits being too shiny and reflecting excessive amounts of light back at me. Still no solutions/fixes anywhere. If there were something I could adjust/download/whatever to stop my characters from appearing shiny, I’d do it, trust me.
Turning my shaders off, or even my graphics to the lowest-of-the-lowest settings does nothing to solve this problem. When I reduce settings, my older outfits become dull and do not reflect light, but the newer ones, such as Lyssa Regalia are still shiny. So, why is it only the new outfits, I ask? This seems inconsistent and (to me) unintended…
Oh well, I haven’t bought an outfit since HoT, I’m stopping my collection there. I’m not spending my gems on buggy items that ignore the basic graphics settings of the game. I regret buying some of these stupid outfits because I cannot use them. I cannot even dye them because it just looks white and shiny all the kittening time!
I’m not going to bother posting more screenshots, it’s pointless and ANet doesn’t seem to have an answer for anything. However, since my last bump more and more buggy outfits have been released, and are displaying this unavoidable issue so I figure I’d update my dusty thread for the sake of documenting this problem.
Here, more buggy outfits:
- Lunatic Guard (I forgot to mention this one before)
- Crystal Savant
- Ironclad (I guess it works for this one, since it’s metal, but still seems a bit excessive when it comes to glare, and looks undyeable).
- Gwen’s Attire
TL;DR
New outfits are still shiny and always look white. Old outfits, not shiny at all and no problems. Why the inconsistency? Why do these new outfits bug out and ignore the graphics settings? Anyone been able to fix this problem for themselves?
