Grenades underwater
Do you happen to play underwater frequently before the patch?
I feel like what you describe is how it has always been, crappy. My experience is mainly from farming in southsun. It’s great if you could aggro a big blob of things but if you tried to farm sharks then it didn’t work very well because the grenades are too slow to catch up or intercept properly. Anything that is moving and not actively trying to kill you tends to be hard to hit.
I spend a fair bit of time underwater when doing harvest runs, fractals, and southsun and grenades were my go to kit of choice (land or sea really). They had auto attack and a surprisingly keen accuracy while underwater.
My fellow engis and I were shocked at how much they had changed.
Please revert the change. The new change is very disappointing.
Agreed, grenades do not work underwater at all now after the patch. This needs to be fixed asap, because just spamming the slowest underwater weapon in the game just isn’t going to cut it.
Yeah grenades don’t really work underwater for me anymore. Spear Gun #2 is a lot more accurate. I guess it worked out since they took the one underwater stage from sPvP though lol. zhe underwater grenades are still no good in WvW though when I’m chasing someone into the water at Bay. Hopefully it’s a simple tracking fix. I think what’s happening is the spread doesn’t have a point of reference like it does on land. I can long range a monster and not even touch a neutral creature outside of that green targeting ring (which is kind of neat.) But underwater, I can only land most grenade hits on an extremely close enemy and if my camera is angled just so. But there’s no use for it really since I can just use bomb kit up close and there’s no chance of it missing.
yeah I’ve noticed this too. I as standing (swimming) like 2 feet from an enemy and one grenade was going straight down, one hit and the other was hit or miss. can we get a fix please?
Still completely broken, I do most of my farming underwater so this has affected me greatly. Switched to bomb kit for a while but it isn’t nearly as efficient at gathering up groups of monsters cause it’s basically melee range, so I’ve pretty much just stopped going underwater for now.

You can use the Elixer Gun underwater for now as a temporary alternative, it does good single target damage but I’m afraid its area damage is far lower.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.

Is this even on the radar? Engineer is my main class with over 2,900 hours on that character alone, this is affecting my gold income significantly. I cringe every time I go underwater, it’s so blatantly broken.

Bumping this in the hope it gets some attention for the 5/20 patch… with the 30% crit damage nerf, and the fact that only one, or sometimes zero grenades make contact even at point blank range, this is easily more than 50% damage reduction for engineers underwater.
If any other class suddenly lost over half their dps on a commonly used weapon set it would be considered game-breaking, and since I spend a lot of time underwater (or used to, rather) I do consider this a game-breaking bug for me. Please give it the attention it deserves.

You mean like the illusionary warden that doesn’t work for Mesmer greater than 50% of the time? Or are your referring to the more than 30 bugged Mesmer skills/traits that don’t work? If you doubt me, see the Mesmer bug thread in this section of the forums. Reporting the bug is one thing, overdramatizing the fact that one kit doesn’t have the same OP effect it had underwater is a bit much.
Still no love in 5/20 content patch, would like to know if this is a permanent change to grenades underwater or not.
