Guild Hall Cloth Node Bugged
The cloth node in the guild hall should only give gossamer scraps when harvested with an Orichalcum-grade sickle. Instead, it gives gossamer scraps even when harvested with a sickle that is of lower grade (in this case Mithril). I’m fairly certain this applies both to Gilded Hollow and Lost Precipice, but I tested it this morning in Gilded Hollow.

Any tier gathering tool (even copper) may be used on any synthesizer

And I never said they did.
My experience with the fully upgraded ore synthesizer is that using a copper pick only produces copper ore (and the additional stuff like resonating slivers and shimmering/tenebrous crystals) while using an orichalcum pick gives the full range of drops, i.e. the results are very much dependent on the grade of the gathering tool I use. In contrast to that, gathering from a cloth synthesizer with a mithril sickle seems to produce gossamer scraps with a frequency that is not appreciably lower than when using an orichalcum sickle. And that strikes me as… wrong.

It strikes me as ‘wrong’ that the quality of the tool could affect your drops — seems unfair to someone who accidentally gathers on a lower-level toon, without realizing the restriction. These aren’t ordinary nodes and I don’t expect them to function as such.
However, since you do, I’d recommend documenting it using the in-game /bug reporting tool right after you get an unexpected result. That will ensure that someone from the QA team reviews the situation and gives them in-game data (by reviewing your logs) to see what’s going on. Then they can decide if it’s working as intended and, if not, how to prioritize a fix.
