Guild Ranks and Inviting Members

Okay, first of all I am unsure if I should be posting this here or at the suggestions. For me and guildmates this is surely a bug.

The leaders of my guild noticed something strange related to the inner ranks of the guild system.
Basically, they way things work now, any player of a certain rank that has the permission “Admin lower ranks” where it lets you change the guild rank of members below you.
The problem here is that it’s possible to change players to the SAME RANK as you. And that may lead to some problems.

Lets put an example here, the guild XxTestxX uses the ranks:
Leader*
Veteran Member*
Member
Newcomer.

Lets just say that only the Leader and VM rank has the ability in question. Any VM rank can make any Member or Newcomer a Veteran Member at whim, without the leader signal. Funny enough, he can’t down-rank the person again.

This doesn’t make sense, if anything wrong happens with any high ranked member in my guild, he may “promote” or “invite” any member he wants to the guild. This is fine on small communities, but on a bigger guild this is food for really chaotic problems. Try to imagine someone getting hacked and promoting everyone to the seconds highest rank on a guild of 500 members? Might as well kick everyone for lulz as well.

I find absurd that a non-guild-leader is able to promote a player to the same ranking as himself. If that was intentional I don’t know, but I hate the idea.

The second and main problem here is that only ranks with said permission are able to Invite players. I seriously wished EVERY member of my guild could invite players, we are not really picky, problem is that we can’t allow EVERY member to keep changing Ranks. That’s risky.

That said, I ask to rethink the way things work here. Or at the very least, that the permission of inviting members and changing ranks become 2 completely different permissions.

Totally agree
I would also add the possibility / obligation to send in game mail or any other kind of message to the guild leaders , informing them that a new member was added by X player. This would help the guild leaders keeping track of the new people on the guild, as well as managing new ranks and functions for all of them.

The same goes for downranking people in the guild. Only Leaders and highly ranked members should be able to do so and all of them should be informed when someone downrank other member and the reason to do so.

Inviting people is a common, fast and incredibly efficient way of creating and improving social experience withing the game, and thus, should be encouraged for all ranks in the guilds, except when the guild leaders decide differently, for any reason like creating a specific group with very specific conditions or interests.

Most guilds have a pretty varied mix of interest, even when the guild has a clearly stated focus like WvW or PvE missions etc. That i think, its because people want to interact with each other and form groups more for the social experience than the objectives at all.
I know that there are always people who want to form specific groups, or even to play alone, but this wouldn’t hurt those people, since they would still be able to do so.

To put it simple: Its a very good way to improve guild mechanics without hurting gameplay experience IMO.

Wouldn’t you agree?

Considering this would affect every guild in the game, I really wish to know about the devs thought on this, even if you don’t agree with the above.

The biggest problem here is that if I want to give permission to my entire guild members to invite more people to the guild (what sounds pretty fair in my opinion), I must give them permission to manage the rank of other guys in the guild.

That is weird… why those permissions are set together in “Admin Lower Ranks”?!
I dont want too see members changing rank without my knowledge or even see members getting kicked with no reason by others…

Good thread.
