I have been having an issue with my game tabbing out on me… and I can’t quite trace out the cause. Quite frustrating as it’s cost me many fights both in PvE and PvP.

I’m using a custom keybind:
Original key > my custom bind

f1 > 1
f2 > 2
f3 > 3
f4 > 4

1 > q
2 > e
3 > r
4 > mouse button 4
5 > mouse button 5
6 > shift + space bar
7 > shift + q
8 > shift + e
9 > shift + r
10 > shift + f

q > a
e > d

The ONLY trend I’ve noticed is that the tab out almost always happens while I’m panning the camera with right mouse click. I have not been able to purposely replicate the tab out. I have always been able to click/tab back into the game with no issue. Accidentally alt + tabbing out can be ruled out as I know for a fact this has happened not being close to those keys, and is an unlikely button-combination mistake in my setup. I know of no combination of right mouse click and my bindings that would cause a tab out.

Looking to see if anyone has had this issue also, may know what is triggering this, or any help that would be appreciated. I admit I haven’t sat down and tried ever combination of keys + right mouse clicks to do a full replication attempt, and will do so when I get home.

Same problem. Game “tabs out” randomly and unexpectedly durring game play.
Unfortunately no responses to this item after two years.

Had this happen for a while then it just went away on its own. Never found out what was causing it.

It happens also while I’m not touching any button!

Any program that has popups or is scheduled to start at a certain time can cause applications to lose focus. For example, your anti-virus saying it’s up to date might cause it.

If you can’t figure it out, look into finding a program that logs which window has focus.

Do you have 2 monitors connected to your PC and are running GW2 fullscreen on one of them?

GW2 has the nasty behaviour that it is not able to keep the mouse pointer within its screen. Even if it is fullscreen. The mouse pointer can escape to the other monitor area, and if you press a mouse button in this moment, the desktop (or whatever application is on the other monitor) is getting the focus, minimizing GW2 in this moment.

You can reproduce this:

- make GW2 fullscreen (really fullscreen, not windowed fullscreen)
- right-click or left-click near the border to the second monitor and hold the button down (a few pixels away from the border)
- release the mouse button and at the same time move the mouse as fast as you can against the border. Eventually the mouse will appear on your second monitor
- if you now right- or left-click, GW2 will minimize

There are programs who try to keep mouse pointers within game windows. They are made for this very problem. Cursor Lock is one of them. I tried it, and it worked very good.

It’s not a fix for people who have only one monitor connected – if you have only one monitor, you have a different problem: some other application steals the focus from GW2 unexpectedly.

I’m getting this issue now. And I know this post is an old one. But I don’t have anything going on in the background to cause it. So it boggles my mind. Even when I’m not clicking with my mouse. So I’m not sure why it’s happening now.

I’m also getting this; I can however perform the trick on command. I’m using the Steelseries GW2 mouse and always get the problem when pressing mouse 4 or mouse 5 (bound to jump & utility 1 respectively). Obviously not good and stops play much beyond logging in for daily rewards. Also copied to the in-game bug report (under ‘beta’ – as there is actually no way to label as a control issue)

Sounds like your mouse buttons might be set to do some other thing by default.

Not that I know of; this is unique to GW2 since the last patch. No mouse settings have changed. I’ve added a second monitor recently, but the cursor is locking to the screen (by luck (or more recent patch) if the older posts are to be believed) so given the issue occurs when the cursor is in the centre of the screen it must be a new bug. Occuring at the same time as that posted above by akm, but different. I’d love a dev to wade in and take a look; the two may be related enough to shed light on each other.

I’ve had the same issue for over a year. GW2 will randomly minimise to the taskbar during play. I can go days without it happening and then have it happen several times in just a few minutes.
I’ve tried closing down every other program and as many background processes that I can get away with but it makes no difference.
What we need is some kind of “Always on top” option that will keep the GW2 client as the active program unless you deliberately tab out.

..And now I’m getting the original auto-minimise problem, three time now when not touching the keyboard (the second time when not even in the room). I agree an ‘always on top’ option may be a good solution.

I’d strongly encourage you to try and figure out the exact sequence of operations that trigger the minimize, and tell us what it is — maybe someone can guess what is causing it from that?

I know that’s not encouraging, and I don’t disbelieve you that it’s a problem, we (and anet) just need more information on how to make it happen to be able to figure out how to fix it!

Oh, I know it isn’t a universal problem. I’m sure this thread would have a lot more attention if it was. The problem with your statement is that today’s particular episodes haven’t had a sequence of operations per se; they have taken place while I was not touching the keyboard (and twice while I wasn’t even in the room). I had not been doing anything unusual in the game or outside of it and would like to repeat that this is a new issue today for me. So there isn’t really more information I can give – though I’m sure the in-game bug report log will hopefully be more illuminating (hopefully!).

So I was having this same issue a few weeks ago and someone posted a tip and it worked. Go-to your task scheduler in windows, go-to the one with Outlook in it and disable the one that says something about runs when there is a change ( can’t remember exactly) but this cleared it up for me. Hope this helps.

I had this not long ago, but turns out it was an app another program (printer drivers, etc.) installed when I downloaded the drivers. I had to search the internet to find out how to disable it. (It was a printscreen/capture app.)

It’s usually another program/app taking desktop priority.
