our log shows an “unkown user” accessing our guild bank,
changed language setting shows that it is not a char/account name
so the question is: bug or ist there someone exploiting a securtiy issue?
(nothing of worth is missing but the attemp alone worries)

Have you had any Guild Member that have been kicked from Guild or that did end membership in your Guild?

It’s neither. It’s a processing limitation of the way things are setup.

  • The guild display takes longer to display the full information of an account.
  • For a variety of reasons, it might not have access to that information if a user has been kicked from the guild, not been online, or not been repping for a while.

So all “unknown user” means is that someone in the guild at the time added or removed something and hasn’t been directly connected with the guild since. The same “unknown” user would display even for adding influence (back when that was the currency).

So your guild storage will be secure, as long as you restrict removal of items to trusted guild members and move people who haven’t repped in a while to some other status. (Anyone can get hacked, so it’s less about them and more about protecting the group.)
