I’ve noticed this for a while, but I don’t play the game very often. The healing from Healing Rain doesn’t seem to do the amount of healing specified in the tooltip. I took a few screenshots to help illustrate the problem. The only reference to Healing Rain in any patch notes that I can find is:

“Healing Rain: Reduced the aftercast by .3 seconds.”

It also doesn’t show up in my combat log. In the screenshots I took, Healing Rain ticks 4 times for 161 healing (total 644 healing at level 80). The other number is Soothing Mist, which ticks for 94 for me.

The tooltip for Healing Rain shows that it should heal for 2,480 over 4 seconds; but that isn’t happening – for me at least. Perhaps some others here can test this in case I’m missing something here. I also noticed that HR scales down when in lower level areas to the same (equivalent) level of healing.

Hmm, the tooltip would suggest a pr second heal of 620.

Then again, it has that odd notation of showing a stack of 4 on a boon that only stack duration. 2480 divided by 4 two times seems to land within the ballpark of the numbers you are seeing. As such, i suspect it is yet another screwed up tooltip…

My healing power is 200. It certainly could be that the tooltip is wrong, but I used to noticed my health jump up a bit when using Healing Rain – now my health doesn’t seem to change. It’s the same for NPCs and other players as well.

200 Healing Power would give 155/s healing from Regeneration.
Healing Rain applies 4 stacks of 1s Regeneration in 3 pulses
so that should be 155 * 12 for you or 1860. It looks like the tooltip is calculating for 4 pulses instead of 3.

For you
2480 / (130 + 0.125 * 200) = 16 / 4s = 4 pulses

On my ele it is
2366 / (130 + 0.125 * 143) = 16 / 4 = 4 pulses
2724 / (130 + 0.125 * 322) = 16 / 4 = 4 pulses
2868 / (130 + 0.125 * 394) = 16 / 4 = 4 pulses

If you are wondering about the 161 instead of the 155. That should be from the WvW bonuses. Which would mean your world had a score between 66,720 and 88,960 when you took the screenshots for +4% healing.
1.04 * (130 + 0.125 * 200) = 161.2 Regeneration
1.04 * (80 + 0.05 * 200) = 93.6 Soothing Mist

Thanks for the game math. However, HR hasn’t always been this way. I’ve been using the staff for a few months now (I didn’t like it at first) and HR used to give a nice boost to health. Maybe it wasn’t working right and A-net made a change – but I sure can’t find it in the patch notes.

If it’s [now] working properly at this amount of healing, then I’m much better off just trying to do more damage before dying instead of even casting it.
