I’ve finished the Living Story on one level 80 character, all solo. I’ve gotten one other level 80 character up to Hidden Arcana, all solo. I did stop and restart at a previous chapter area, but not this step. I have not played ahead and gone back to this step. The two times I’ve tried Hidden Arcana on the second level 80 character, I get up to the point we first meet Ogden, then when pressing “F” to interact with him, I get a brief flash of the background of a short text box and the whooshy/bleepy sound effect. Then a dialog box with several lore based dialog choices shows up instead of dialog leading to the Hour Glass. I haven’t gotten a third character up to this point yet.

(And as an aside, why am I somtimes getting an otherwise blank page with this text across the top “Sorry, this area isn’t available yet. Please check back later. Try going back home?” when trying to post here?)

Oh dear. After going in again, I realized I made a huge mistake. The character getting stuck in Hidden Arcana has actually completed it and is getting stuck during a second run through, standard, not in achievement mode. I am SO sorry for the mis-information! I’ve also completed this particular step on two other characters, for a total of four. I’ve not tried taking any others through this step yet.

I just hit the same problem. I also get this shortly flashing up of a text-box and afterwards options about lore questions.
I do have several lvl 80 characters on my account but only did the living story chapters with my main character. My first playthrough went without problems. I did it some time ago, I think grouped with a friend of mine. Now I wanted to do the achievements and started it in achievement mode (purple star). I did the Caithe’s Reconnaissance Squad achievements yesterday (also started in achievement mode) and did not encounter any problems.
After encountering the bug I tried:
- using all dialog options with Ogden
- restarting the instance in achievement mode (I left the instance before via WvW-panel)
- restarting the instance in achievement mode after relogging via character selection
- restarting the instance in achievement mode after rendering the chapter inactive, selecting another chapter (later chapter) and reselecting the chapter
The bug persisted.
Something that might be unrelated but that I noticed is, that the inscription in front of the Abbadon-statue is cloned with only one version functioning.

Thank you for looking into this and I hope there will be a possibility to fix this some time. I will try to do the achievements with friends in their instance of the story .

For me. im stuck at speaking with ogden part. i have done it before but after i completed (hidden arcane) it jumped to the next episode. and now i re-started episode 5 and stuck at ogden.

For me, I’m also stuck at speaking to Ogden. I have multiple other level 80’s, and all of them can complete it properly.

My main character has completed it twice, but is getting stuck at the 3rd time. I accidentally activated it again, and I wanted to complete it so that all of the episodes show up as complete in my story journal.

Also, not sure if this means anything, but despite completing all of the achievements, when I enter the hidden arcana mission, I have all of the ‘qualify for…’ buffs. No idea if that means anything, but I figured I’d mention it.

Also, the third time I activated it was probably when episode 6 was out. I think I accidentally clicked on it and started it.

And for more information, since this bug happened, I have tried restarting the mission, restarting the episode completely and playing from the beginning, resetting it and switching to another active mission before switching back, etc, and none of them have worked.

I have only completed it on one 80.
I returned to do achievements and the entire episode wasn’t showing up as completed in my book.
I finished everything until Ogden.
When I speak to him, a blank chat box shows up and then is replaced by a list of lore questions for him, but nothing to progress the mission.
I also am seeing achievement eligibility buffs for achievements I’ve already completed.

Update:
I am able to work on the achievements if I enter the story-instance with a friend. She started the instance with one of her lvl 80 characters that already completed this part of the story. She started it in challenge mode after we completed the Caithe’s Reconnaissance Squad achievements for her in an instance of that story mode that I opened. She does not encounter the same bug as I do, she is able to talk to Ogden and progress the instance. She is quite sure (as I am) that we did the Hidden Arcana part of the story together in an instance that she opened when I first finished the instance.

After encountering this bug when I first tried to play months ago, I have just replayed it again from the start (the 4th or 5th time now!) hoping that the bug has been fixed, but sadly it hasn’t. As above, I get to Ogden and a blank text window flashes up very briefly before disappearing, then I get the window with the lore options but no option to advance the story. Any news on this?

Here are the answers to your questions:

I have only tried to complete the episode with one L80
I went through the episode with a friend for the first time and we both completed it, but it didn’t show up as completed on my story journal (it did on his). I can’t remember who opened the instance.
I may have switched to a later episode before completing episode 5 but I’m not sure. This may have happened as I completed episode 5 a little late, after it and some following episodes had already been released. So my story journal may have been on a later episode, then gone back to E5.

Is anyone still working on this? Because I haven’t heard anything, and I’m still having the same issue.

Same problem.
My main char is the only one with that story. Restarted 8 times at least

I completed previous missing steps and it’s gone. Maybe the new expansion?
