I was happy to see that the displaying of health bars in squad were brought back however I was very disappointed that we now have all nameplates displayed again, despite of the ‘Show all player names’ option being turned off. For many of us this can be very frustrating since it makes health bars and commander tags hard to see while in big squads.

Well, as I mentioned at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Bug-Party-Member-Nameplate/6033801 it’s a controversial subject. As I see it, for ages the option wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do but people got used to it as "feature", then when they finally "fixed" it people started complaining. *shrugs*

I haven’t seen that post, sorry. Seeing that many people do like the way it works now I think the best thing would be to introduce another option. Players would be able to choose from ‘Show all player names’ and ‘Show squad/party member names’. The nameplates covering the tag of a commander is really an issue especially in WvW (edit: actually it works in WvW which makes it even more inconsistent to have it not work in a regular PvE squad) or big events and being able to switch the nameplates off was a huge help. Beside making the tags very hard to notcie I personally also find that seeing the nameplates just breaks the atmosphere. I often find myself considering leaving the squad just so I can see more clearly. If someone would like to hide nameplates it really shouldn’t matter whether they are in a squad or not.

It’s ok, it was getting deep into forums anyway. And yes, I would be all up for an option too. And as I said there, I agree that the option should be global for consistency’s sake. If it says “All Players” it should be “all”, either you are in squad/party or not. But also having an option to show it in squad while hiding others could be good, as some people use it to see if party/squad members need some help.
