This may be a minor bug, but it’s a bug and I figured nobody may know about it yet. I got all the 82 hints in the game but the achievement is stuck at 81/82 hints completed. Now a while ago I tried to get my mail box full with 10 mails and I didn’t get the hint telling you it’s full. That seemed to be broken. Yesterday it worked and I got the hint. Now I have a check at every hint category in the hints window, but the achievement isn’t working.

Actually I just counted them all twice. And there’s actually 83 hints in the hints window total. And I have all of them. But the achievement says 81 out of 82.

I’m having this same problem. Finished the last hint and the achievement is stuck at 81/82 also.

This should be fixed by ANet, but here’s an explanation and a work-around.

Explanation: The glitch is probably caused by the change to a 9-mail limit from the original 10 (this was done to help reduce strain on the mail/authentication systems). The hint still reflects the original limit (10), even though the in-box is limited to 9 player-sent mail items.

Work-around:

1. Clear out your inbox. (You can keep the system messages, but it is easier if you delete those, too.)
2. Have a friend copy your account name so that they can spam your inbox without any delays.
3. Have the friend send you 10 emails.
4. Start deleting emails and have the friend start spamming, i.e. as rapidly as they can press “compose”, paste your name, and click send. This might take 10+ more emails.
5. At some point, the hint should get marked “done.” This usually happened at about the +8 or +10 mark (i.e. 18 or 20 total emails).

This worked for two different guildies, but I haven’t tried it recently. Some of the steps might be overkill, but they are so easy that I think it’s worth going through the extra effort.

I have the hint error with pressing f to kill a downed enemy I have used thisd loads in spvp and also wvw yet the hint never gets checked that I have completed it

To flag the hint, VinceNoir, click on the hint when you’re near an opposing downed enemy. It’ll flag it as “learned” and not display it again.

The main issue with the Hint Completion Achievement is the Mailbox one, as the limit for mails are 9, while the hint requests 10 to flag your Inbox as full. Oversight by ArenaNet, and one I hope they fix soon-ish. It shouldn’t take long to switch the >= 10 to >= 9 in the code.

See if you read my post carefully you would’ve known that this isn’t the problem anymore. I simply had someone send me 10 mails and I have all the hints unlocked. It’s just the achievement now that’s broken. I have ALL 83 HINTS UNLOCKED but my achievement says 81 out of 82… :|

I have the same problem, being stuck at 79/82.
This is actually something that’s been there for at least half a month and I actually have seen another thread for this a week ago or so. It seems it got drowned in the sheer mass of bugs and since it’s a rather small issue Anet put it probably in the back seat for now.

Bumping and adding myself to the list. I heard it worked for some of my guildies though, can someone confirm that? I still have 81/82 hints marked despite having all 83 (!) hints marked as done in hints window.

I’m stuck at 80/82 with all hints unlocked. I think the problem is not clicking the hint message when it appears – if you don’t clikc it, it won’t count for achievement. Just a theory. Anyway, since big update is coming up, can someone just fix that or give alternative solution to us? Like, place a support ticket and they will grant you an achievement if you have all hints unlocked?

I have the same problem. It’s been that way for a long time now. I’m also interested in a fix.

You are probably missing the full mailbox one like I am. I can only hold 8 messages so I cannot get 10/10… There are a lot of people that have this issue.

I actually let my mailbox fill up just to get this one.

I’ve gone through every category. They all have check marks. Still says 82/83.

Same problem here. JUST did the PvP trebuchet one and the mail one, with the intention of finally completing this achievement. Got the mail one first, then the PvP treb one, list is full checkmarks, 100%, but achievement window says 82/83, just as it did right before I got the PvP trebuchet hint.

Same problem. All Hints marked “V”… but in achievements 82/83!

Achievement tab > Hero > Hints (Right at the bottom)

For me this says 79/83 Hints completed but when I open the hints interface everything is checked off, I even went through and checked them all individually. Am I missing something or am I bugged?

Bumping this up, I still have all but one achievement done, and it won’t let me complete the Trebuchet achievement (PvP tab in the Hints window). I’ve set up, built, fired, hit buildings, hit players, hit NPCs, hit upgrades/other siege weapons. Still not hint completion. I’m stuck at 81/83 Hints Completed on my Hero Achievement window (no clue which of the other 83 is checked off, but not counting).

82/83 hints here too, despite every category in the hints menu being ticked. The number of unaddressed bugs in this game is getting annoying.

Any news on when the Trebuchet hint achievement will be fixed?

As the topic states, I believe that the hint ach is currently bugged as you can see I have everything completed yet I am 3 short.

The way to get this is not to delete all your mail but to have 10 letters from other players in your box.

its still bugged….i dont even remember what my last one was..i’m at 82/83..been that way since they added the last few including trebuchet,,,,i think that was my last one…its bugged… they have a lot of issues to fix…the annoying sound issue (oooOOOOOooooOOOO)…the disabling mouse bug(reported 15 days ago)…. the extremely low fps since last patch…..

Got the same problem but the achievement is stuck at 80/83 hints for me even though there is now 85 hints in the game. I have gotten all 85 hints but the achievement is stuck and has not updated. Seeing as though this issue was first brought up 4 months ago, it’d be nice to see some fix or at least a response about the bug.

something weird is going on, some people seem to have xx/82 or xx/83.

Anyway, i am still showing on achievements as 78/83, yet in the hints window everything is checked as done. I have even went through them 1 by one to do them all again, yet to no avail. 5 months this achievement has been glitched and not a single response from devs if its even being looked at/

Find it quite odd, since ANet is talking about player rankings (including achievements), but there are still achievements bugged.. :/

Does the mailbox have to be filled by player mail, or does NPC mail count to fill to 10?

Bugged for me too. I haven’t noticed it at first, but when i looked through my achievements i came across it and it says 80/83 even though all hints are checked.

I got this to work for me today! I was having the issue of it not showing the same # of complete vs the actual number completed. However, by the time I got my last one it filled them all in and it was complete. It seemed on mine, that it was only triggering the count every other one. Maybe try re-triggering a couple. (make a new character, take them into WvW & pvp, and maybe try filling another mailbox)… Who knows, it might help!

Lastly, for the mailbox full hint, I had to make sure that I had no emails in there from anything but other players; I had to delete all game related mails (hearts, explore, dungeons, living story etc) and all items from gem store had to be taken out also (even the free stuff). Also, make sure to actually click on the hint if it shows up onscreen.

Hope this helps somebody.

This has been broken pretty much since launch last year, Anet are aware of it, but I guess its not on there priority list of things to fix right now, especially when there are stuck events breaking mass areas of the game.

This might only be tangentially related to the topic, but if any of you guys are missing the full mailbox hint despite having a full mailbox (as in, actually able to make it to 10 messages and still not getting it) i figured out an issue that might help. I had saved the 4 messages from halloween just for sentimentality, and those all counted towards my mailbox limit. Thing is, evidently the hint doesn’t trigger unless you have 10 messages from PLAYERS in your inbox. Reading this thread made me go back and look and sure enough, those 4 were buried at the bottom and i’d forgotten all about it. So even when i was at 10/10 in the box, the hint was treating it as though i was at 6/10. I removed those 4, had friends send me 4 spams, and the hint triggered. I deleted a message and got the achievement. I don’t know if this will be of any help to anyone, but double check to make sure all your mails are from players and not NPC messages being classified as mail. Might end up fixing at least one of the problems.

78/83 in achievement, 83/83 in hints list and I don’t have achievement completed. Please fix it soon.

Same like Hobby Dungeon Explorer stuck on 145 points and no more to get (limit 200)

Bugged for me too. I decided to give it a try today with my. My last three hints were mailbox (worked fine), engineer toolbox (also worked fine) and warrior adrenaline. Now all hints are ticked in the help window and the hint completion says 82/83.
