Yes just happened to me in heart of the mists, bug reported!

Bump again because it’s hilarious.

To let you all know and so Anet fixes this REALLY quickly, the buff is from Delicious Rice Ball
I was just kicked from the game by someone spamming me this while in WvW. I couldnt click on them to report them, and hovering over it caused my disconnect while leading in wvw. Game client wouldnt allow a screen capture in time to see who was spamming me this. Can I get a MOD to take a look at who was spamming me this at 8:45est on 2-10-2015? This seems like someone was trying to trigger an exploit to kick people in leading in wvw.

My game just crashed after someone linked me this in a whisper in eotm….
Ppl intentionally abuse this bug spam ping those on map chat to crash clients.
Just take screenshots or video if someone spams them on the chat and put a ticket up for customer service. Thats all you can do since you cant report or block without crashing yourself.
You can then later block everybody that abuses that bug from the screenshots.
The [WWJD] Guild on Fort Aspenwood is using this exploit to get their guildmates into EBG.
Thank you for reporting this! And thanks to the player who messaged me in the game.
It really helps to know this, and I’m escalating immediately.

And back to report that this is on the radar and will be fixed as soon as we can do so.

Thank you for the quick response Ms. Gray.
I hope it will be fixed soon:)
So does anyone know/think why this happens? I typically hate speculation, but I’ve never seen an in-game item description crash a game before.

Actually there was already something like this before sadly..back in Festival of the Four Winds or so the “Indomitable” buff that was introduced for Crown Pavillion bosses (same as what SW bosses have now I believe?) used to do this..
Basically, a buff has multiple strings associated with it, some for the buff hover-over and some for other things. If one of these strings is missing, it’s a null in the back-end, and that then gets used by something which isn’t exception-safe to null strings and crashes the client. That’s my take on it, anywho, and it’s reasonable to understand how something like that may slip through QA.
What is going to happen to all the annoying people that link this food buff to annoy everyone?
Ive simply reported everyone that links it, hope action will be taken to these peoples accounts, I think a stern warning is the least that should be done seeing as it is basically exploiting a bug.
Yeah most of time while we are doin Wolrd bosses i didiot linlkin that home-cooked nourishemnt food and half of map crushing. Not just in Lion Arch in all maps. Anet most solve this problem as soon as possible. Becuase u spendin ur time for a boss and becuase of 1 player u not gettin reward.
In the meantime, is there some specific way you’d like us to report these people? It’s not exactly covered in any of your report options, and from my experience, when I report people they’re still roaming around the game with no reasonable lack of playtime. I’ve been crashed by it a few times, but I remember who sent them to me. Slowly my block list is getting longer, but I’d rather not have to cautiously move my mouse across the chat box to the name and report/block it that way.
Glad that this is on the radar. Have just been blocking and reporting for spam anyone that has been posting it in chat.
Is this going to be fixed sometime before HoT comes out?
I think in this case a support ticket is better than just reporting it ingame. I am not sure if GMs will recognize that its a broken item link used to grief players.
Did the patch update fixed this bug?

I understand that. But reporting the people who are maliciously posting it in chat? Heck yeah.

And before anyone says “Well they could just be linking it for people to see what they’re using” or something like that; it’s pretty obvious it’s malicious when they say something like “Hey guys look at this”, “make sure you use <item name>” or just link the item multiple times seemingly randomly.
There should be an additional report option for griefing or something though. I’d rather not back up their system with a support ticket just to let them know about a non-game breaking issue. That’s what this sub-forum and (supposedly) the report function is for.
Im glad it is fixed now. But I still hope action will be taken upon the people that used this item for griefing.
