I always thought this particular word was a derogatory term for asians and nothing else.

I think they may have actually meant to type “goons”. There are quite a few typos in the NPC dialogs…perhaps they need to be reported so they can fix them (or not, since it’s a relatively minor issue).

Well, according to dictionary.com, the word can also be used to mean “anyone who is offensive to others because of stupidity, coarseness, etc.”, though I do agree that the word may need to be changed.

Also, the word is changed to kitten on the forum, hence I didn’t post a direct link, in case it ruined the link itself.

Perhaps they person is just a bad typist. Typos happen…it’s a more reasonable explanation than jumping to a conclusion that someone went out of their way to put a racist term in.

Goon is more in context anyways.

Of course, I just kidding.

The thing is, many words have different meanings and some of the meanings could be construed as a worthy reason for filtering or censure.

Some words such as the one I jokingly ‘kittened’ can be seen by many as not offencive, by others as mildly offencive or as maybe not offencive but vulgar all the same!

And while we’re at it, ‘offencive’, ‘centre’, ‘honour’ and ‘armour’ are all correctly spelled* thank you very much forum spell checker. (I know its all about the words being spelled differently in different versions of the same language).

On a more serious note, the word in question in that screen shot should be altered so as to ensure no offence is present (I’m sure non was intended though).

Have you read some of the developer’s blogs? A number of them must have taken composition pass-fail.

Don’t be overly offended, just file a bug report so they can get it fixed.

Sidenote: You can right click in the text box and under where “Check Spelling” is checked off there is a “Languages” button. You should be able to change it to your own dictionary language there.

If you don’t read NPC chatter you’re missing out on a lot of fun things.

Including people who almost sound like they’re going to offer a quest then, breaking the laws of RPG physics (or narrativium) decide they can do it themselves!

I’m dyslexic so don’t take my word for it but I always thought it was ‘offensive’ and ‘offence’. No idea why it would be different, other than it suits the pronounciation and because English is a rediculous language.

It really does not matter which version of spelling we use – so long as we understand each other.

Any way, back on track! I just looked up the offending word and think it should be changed all the more.
