Interaction key (F) occasionally not responding
I am having the same problem. When trying to interact using the f key, sometimes it will not do anything, or there will be a bit of a lag. It seems to only happen to me during a certain time of day. This only started happening within the last week or so. It’s quite annoying, I usually just quit and play at different time of day.
I’m having a similar problem, but my thread of it seems to have been deleted. I’m not seeing any other indicators of lag, but if my character is auto-attacking, I can’t reliably press ‘F’ to, say, pick up a boulder in the AC Story “Lovers” fight. I have to ctrl-Right click to turn off AA completely.
Did anyone resolve this issue? I have the same problem and have deduced that the location of my character and of the object I want to interact with are not as shown on the screen.
This can be deadly in combat. And I miss a lot of loot because I can’t pick it up.
If someone has found a solution, I would really appreciate knowing what it is.

Using AoE Autoloot should take care of any spatial looting problems. Do you have that enabled?
Thanks, Inculpatus. I did not have AoE Loot on Interact enabled. I did have Autoloot checked./
Will this also affect Gathering/Chopping/ Mining as well as interacting with NPCs?
No, AoE autoloot is as the name says, only for loot. To interact with nodes, bundles/objects or NPCs you still have to get closer to them and use Interact (F).

Nope, apparently not
All through the history of the game I’ve had the F key occasionally fail when trying to rez a downed player, but not for anything else. (It’s frustrating to be trying to help the player and they must be thinking “that jerk, standing right by me, why not help?”). Even clicking the F-field on the UI won’t activate it.
However just today in dungeons I found the opposite problem: sometimes my area loot key wouldn’t open a chest but my F key still did. I had to hit both in succession to make sure I was getting all the stuff.
I’ve also had it to where I was stopped at a plant and hit my interact key to gather…and nothing happens. After spamming it then it starts to gather. Honestly, I’ve gotten so used to my interact and aoe loot keys not doing what they’re supposed to do on the first press that I’ve just made it a habit to spam my interact key to gather and my aoe loot key to actually aoe loot. I also just spam my aoe loot key any time I kill something just in case it has something to loot because sometimes the sparkles do not even appear immediately after it dies, especially if it was one of those stinking shadow skelks, melandru’s stalker or black jaguars that go invisible; if I kill them while they are invisible then it takes a few seconds for the corpse to even appear, then another second or two for it to start to sparkle. It’s quite annoying.
Basically, just spam your key until it does what it is actually supposed to do.

Yes, clicking on the on-screen prompt does not work.
Nor does spamming, when the malfunction is at its worst. In fact, I know the problem is coming when the interaction occurs a few seconds after hitting “F”. After that it shows up in spades.
I have found that if I go to the edge of the interaction field, just before the prompt (Gather/Chop/Mine, Pick Up, etc) disappears, and run a circle at that range pressing F every few steps, then I usually get results. Once I had to be even farther away. That is why I think it has to do with graphics location not the same as program logic location.
And it started only after Anet announced the Megaserver. I have been playing for a year and a half and until Arr 13, no problem. Until I found this thread I was going to bump it up to Anet Tech Support. Now it seems to be a “known bug”.
Thanks for all your suggestions, folks.
A thing that “solves” it for me when it happens is by moving away from the object of interaction. At times I get close to a NPC or gathering node and the Interact (F) option does nothing, then I move back away a few steps and then I go closer again, after that the option works. So yes, I also would think that the game shows you are in the interactable range when actually you aren’t, or something like.
