"Into the Labyrinth" NPCs bugged
Same thing happening to me. Tried a half a dozen times at least. Unfortunately, not just taking a long time, but I can’t complete as Caithe quits healing at the final boss and when I go down, (not if) returning from the checkpoint you find the Modrem boss fully healed.
Same bug is occurring right now to me. Simply infuriating trying to make it through the maze with no support.
Still broken after this mornings build. Come on!
Seems to be all story instances. Just finished “The Commander” and both Logan and Countess Anise stood around while I dealt with the Ministry Guard alone. It was only until I dragged Commander Serentine over to them did they start to fight.
Same, can’t pass Into the Labyrinth. My squishy self goes down repeatedly, it takes forever without the additional firepower, and Caithe stops healing at final boss.
Really, this is annoying. This story mode has been out for how long and I remember when I did it when it just came out it was bugged like this. I had thought by now they would have fixed it or something.
Had this bug yesterday.
Thought no problem to solo this ini with NPCs but they didn’t do anything within the fight(s)… The god kitten boss took me (seriously…) nearly fifteen (!) minutes to kill, I was a bit proud that my rev didn’t died by the way, first “Legendary” my rev killed alone. :-P Run, Damage, Heal, Run, Damage, Heal and so on…
Please FIX this quickly, won’t be the last time I’m gonna’ do this ini…
Thanks & regards.
OK, so now I have 2 characters stuck at this point. This had been happening for some time before it was finally reported. Please fix.
I get no help AT ALL from the NPC allies. They don’t assist in the fight against the Mordrem Predator and they don’t revive me either. My husband has already successfully completed this and he didn’t have this problem. I’m trying to catch with him so we can play together, but I’ll never kill this thing alone!
Has there been any action on fixing this in a near-future update?
Nothing I’m aware of. It’s been posted here and on Reddit with no response from devs.
Well, todays build didn’t do jack, as far as this concerned!
Still not working:(
Another build… no fix. It’s been weeks guys.
I reported this some time ago regarding Tangled Paths story. All the ally NPCs seem to have broken AI and don’t fight at all anymore.
Hi all, I just submitted a ticket on this bug to join the rest of you. My character is an elementalist so wayyyy too squishy to kill the predator on my own, so the game has become wayyyy too frustrating for me and in the interests of keeping my keyboard in one piece I will be retiring from the game until this bug is fixed. ATM Guild Wars (1) is more appealing
The NPC’s that are with you throughout the course of the story, do not attack the Mordrem Predator in the final fight of the instance. Also during the course of the fight, i found that by interacting on the any of them, it will reset the health of the Predator back to full.
In one of the instance i was playing, the Mordrem’s health automatically reset halfway during the encounter.
It would be fine, if the NPC’s present did not follow you around the chamber, making it more likely for you to interact with them, while performing attacks.
I have been experiencing the same bug mainly in the labyrinth section of Tangled Paths, it also seems that by interacting with any of the NPCs it will, at least for me, reset the health of the final Boss
I am facing the same issue – it starts from the very beginning, with Caithe not helping (except the reviving) and neither will any further NPCs.
I would assume by ‘normal’ operation this mission would be almost a piece of cake with 5 mighty NPCs backing you (at least 1 one them counting as a true tank…)
Playing an engineer — could get the boss down with ~ 20% health, but not further.
Best I’ve been able to do so far with my revenant is about 30%.
Back when the NPC’s were actually fighting, it definitely was much easier. Perhaps not exactly a piece of cake, but not a Shadow-Dragon-type encounter either. As you found more of them, it became easier to get through the labyrinth to the rest of them. At the Predator, Braham would bubble up and pretty much keep it tanked and centered in the area while you and the other NPCs could move around sniping it. You still had to avoid the swarms moving around and the rock blasts, of course, but the battle lasted only a few minutes rather than the forever it takes now to make any significant dent in its health.
I really hate being stalled out on getting my new toon caught up to the others in the story. Everybody else is working through Bitterfrost, but my poor rev still has to do the rest of season 2, HoT, and the earlier parts of season 3.
Same issue here. Can get it down to ~15%, after that it’s nearly impossible to dodge everything and still deal damage with a squishy ele. As your allies don’t even rez you, it’s game over quickly at that point.
Really annoying bug because it blocks story progress.
Same issue, NPCs do not attack the foes throughout the instance.
During the section of fighting with Mordrem Predator, Caithe do not help to recover me while I am down. Caithe just stand there and do nothing.

I have reported the bug again… Please respond to the thread if it seems to get resolved at your end. Thanks!
I’ve just logged a bug for this. I’ve run circles round this guy for half an hour now with my “allies” all standing around like lemons and the Modrem Predator seemingly randomly resetting his health when I’ve gotten anywhere near killing him.
So frustrating and blocking me from completing the story.
Bug is still active… needs to be squished.
I posted on here a day or so ago, and since then there have been half a dozen more posts confirming this bug, so I was very suprised and disappointed to find that this bug is not even being investigated yet, according to the Known Issue Tracker page (https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/231272908-Known-Issue-Tracker) once I discovered (just now) that the page existed. My God, how many people have to experience and report a bug before someone from ArenaNet sees and acknowledges it??? The page was last updated 11 days ago in the 18th, so if this bug has been included since that update, then thank you very much to the ArenaNet team, but if it hasn’t, c’mon guys. There is a problem here that lots of your customers have reported and it needs to be fixed. Please, PLEASE, get it done.
Well, todays build yielded the same result… NONE!! Can somebody please make Guild Wars 2 great again?
Ok, so on the advice of the ArenaNet guy handling my support ticket on this bug, I have gone back into the storyline and submitted an in-game bug report in the battle with the Mordrem Predator, which is something I hadn’t done up till now. Perhaps those that have not done one yet could do one too. I am not sure what we have to do to make ArenaNet aware of this bug and get them to respond in some way (getting it listed on the Known Issue Tracker page would be a good start), but maybe we all need to submit an in-game bug report on this every day?? I was going to give the game a miss until this was fixed as it was so frustrating I feared i would damage my keyboard or mouse, but I’m thinking I could handle a daily in-game bug report if I thought it might speed up the process. Maybe we could all do one??
I’ve summitted a bug report ingame aswell, though as usual, i’m not sure what category to file the bug under, so i just (more or less) pick some random.
Fix this kitten…
I’ve just done my daily attempt at this and nothing has changed. I did watch a video of this battle being successfuly fought AND all the NPCs helped in the video so I know they did help at one point in time. I just hope it is a genuine bug cause my fear is that some nerd programmer judged it to be too easy and nerfed the NPCs to become stuffed mullets to “give us more of a challenge”, which might be why no one from ArenaNet has commented in this thread yet. Maybe they just hope we will go away and forget about it so they dont have to undo the nerf. Anyway, thats probably being too pessimistic, and I probably should give the game developers more credit . . . and a bit more time to respond before I make any judgements.
Making daily attempts when there has been no game update seems kind of pointless. It would seem wiser to wait for a game update before checking to see if the bug has been fixed in that update.
Repeatedly sending bug reports for the same bug seems kind of likely to produce nothing but annoyance for the maintenance team, since the additional reports from the same person tell them nothing they did not already know — there is a bug and it hasn’t been fixed yet — but forces someone to waste his time dealing with the duplicates. There have been a number of reports lately about strange NPC behavior in parts of the original PS as well as in parts of LS2, so it would not surprise me if these bugs are all related in some way. I doubt it will be swept under the rug and forgotten.
A single report from each person affected seems like it would be more useful, since it would at least indicate the scope of the problem and help them prioritize the fix. I think we have to understand that bugs in new content are going to affect far more people than bugs in old content and will take priority.
It’s also possible that the bug is related to some change made for the new content. In that case it’s possible it will be fixed as the new content goes through the debugging process. It’s also possible that the change is essential for the new content to work and fixing it for old content without breaking the new content might be a non-trivial job.
In short, we need to have a little patience. I’m anxious to get my newest character through the story as well and hate having him stuck on this episode. But stuff happens. Find something else to do for a while.
Wow BrettM, you are so sensible, thoughtful, and considerate of the precious ArenaNet staff, and I would tend to agree with you about daily attempts and bug reports being pointless . . . if I hadn’t come to see from my life experiences to date, that the saying “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” is a truism . . . and that’s where I was coming from. I am too old to be all sensible, thoughtful, and considerate about this like you, because, and you seem to forget, we are the paying clientele here.
In the past month or so I have purchased the GW2 HOT software, and in addition to this, several lots of gems to buy some pretty essential equipment and for consecutive chapters, up to the current one with the bug, of the Living World Season 2 storyline. That makes me a paying customer, entitled to get and be happy with, what I have paid for.
You make it sound like unhappy customers are meant to suffer their frustrations in silence so that the software programmers don’t get annoyed, when actually, the opposite is true. Customers need to express frustrations about faulty products, and be the squeaky wheels, especially when they are ignored for weeks trying to get a problem fixed, and the retailer should be bending over backwards trying to fix any problems with the product they have sold, and keep the customers who collectively contribute to paying their wages every week, happy.
Seriously, how long would it take for an ArenaNet staff member to write a sentence or two here in this thread, like they have done in other threads, letting all of us that have posted here confirming this bug, know what was happening . . . 2 minutes if that, I reckon.
At least, if that were the case, we could relax with the knowledge that our posts had been seen, that ArenaNet were aware of the bug, and what, if anything, they were planning on doing about it . . . basically letting us know that they, the retailer, were doing everything they could to keep us, their valued customers, happy.
Don’t you think its odd that after 25 days and numerous posts confirming the bug, there has not been a single response to this thread by anyone from ArenaNet? I feel very ignored, and if they had responded, my approach would be very different.
I really think they have forgotten the simple fact that we are their customers and this game is software they have sold us . . . probably because there are customers that have forgotten it as well.
It would be good to have other characters/toons in the game, like you do, that progressed past this point when it wasn’t bugged, so I could be exploring the new content you mentioned, but this is the only character I use and the only one I plan on using in the future, so my progress in the game is completely halted at the moment.
Yes, I could drop the game and find something else to do for a while, but I really love so many aspects of GW2 (especially gliding), after completing pretty well everything there was to do in the original Guild Wars (so I am somewhat of a loyal ArenaNet customer as well), and I just want to be playing it again and continuing to work through my current storyline. I really don’t think its too much to ask for.
And, because that’s my goal, I personally don’t have a problem with doing anything and everything I can to help achieve it, even if my methods are judged as pointless and unwise by my fellow customers/players. You do it your way and I’ll do it mine.
Yes I’m currently stuck on this one. It’s impossible to finish…
In an email today from the latest customer service officer tackling my ticket on this bug, he wrote “It does appear that this isn’t a currently known issue for us, so we will send it up for review”, so that is really positive. He later added “the more attention brought to this issue by several players, the better”, so please don’t stop submitting the in-game bug reports and posting here in the thread from time to time guys. Still finding it hard to believe someone from ArenaNet has not seen this thread, and if they have, that they have chosen to completely ignore us. Still not on the Known Issue Tracker page, but then, thats understandable seeing it has still not been updated since the 18th of November . . . and thats after declaring on that page that we can expect it to be updated at least once a week! What a joke!
Hey guys, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad, still no acknowledgement from ArenaNet that this bug exists . . . BUT . . . the good news is that, totally by accident, I discovered a really easy way to kill the Mordrem Predator. Its almost unbelievable really, and it came about by the latest ArenaNet Customer Service Officer dealing with the support ticket I submitted on this bug a week or so ago asking me for some screenshots of the NPCs acting like zombies. I decided to go one better and make a video of my attempt at the chapter during one of my daily bug reports, and made one of the whole thing including finding the NPCs in the labyrinth (https://youtu.be/fm8ZMMlp6yI).
Then the most bizarre thing happened . . . after I had got to the second restart after dying twice in the end battle (to show how the Predator returned to full health every time I died and restarted), I stopped the video, saved it, and then started to watch it to make sure the recording software had worked. I am not sure how long I watched it for, between 5 and 10 minutes maybe, but you can imagine my surprise and confusion when I closed the video screen and returned to the game, only to find the battle over and the Predator dead. This had basically occurred while I had been AFK, from the game screen anyway, so I had no idea what had happened. All I had to go on, in attempting to reproduce it so I could share it with you guys, was the position I had left my character in at the very end of the video.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I was able to reproduce, and record on video, this discovery after several hours and many fails, and so have also uploaded that video too (https://youtu.be/2K-fLeIlANA). In it I defeat him in about 5 minutes suffering zero damage. It would have been quicker if I had used more of my skills from the beginning, but I started out wanting to show it could be done AFK using the auto attack skill only. About halfway through I decided to speed it up.
I hope this helps some or all of you get past this blockage, and thanks to everyone for supporting the reporting of this bug in this thread even though ArenaNet, after a month and many players posting confirmation of the bug, either didnt bother to read them, or, if they did, didnt bother to post an acknowledgement that the bug exists, and what they planned to do about it, on this thread.

Great tip – it worked for me !
Many thx. for sharing, Casser
Nice.
I’m sure they will fix this now, in a matter of days.. can’t have such an exploit :p
The bug with the NPC’s will still be there ofc. Such is life.
I had to team up with someone to do it <*shudder*>
if you sit behind caithe with a longbow and you have 45 mins to kill.
you might be able to do the quest
this bug is happening for me, NPCs don’t do squat, just follow you about but no attacking or reviving
Well, still not fixed as of this mornings build. This is total bs!
Same. It’s very discouraging when you pay real money for something in game that doesn’t even work.
Anybody else get the feeling we’re simply being ignored. Not even the courtesy of being acknowledged.
Still broken as of last night. This bug makes it extremely challenging to beat the boss, but it is doable … just rage-inducingly, armour-destroyingly slow. Bring a ranged damage dealer, repair canister(s) and a truck load of patience.
@ Devs: Please acknowledge and fix. Can we escalate this by getting some well-known streamer to record this?
Well. something’s being fixed, but it sure as hell isn’t this!
Can I suggest the last few guys that have posted here read my last post (last long one above). In it I have a link to a video of the bug in full swing, AND, (fingers crossed that this part is still working), I have links to a video showing an exploit that uses the stupid heros that do nothing exept stand there like morons to advantage – as an armour shield that enables the Mordrem Predator to be defeated in about 5 minutes, and even alows you to do it AFK if you are happy to take a bit longer. I discovered it totally by accident, and its all to do with getting the heros into the right spot, which is not that hard, and then standing right in the middle of them. You remain untouched and unmoving while you hammer the MP to death, but I guess you need some ranged weapon as well to make this work. I hope they have not “fixed” this one yet and good luck!
I’m getting this bug too. It’s my first story mission after a long absence from the game – and it’s broken. So annoying.
Submitted bug report, and I’ll have to acquire a ranged weapon to follow the video posted above.
Quite disheartening if I’m honest. Anet haven’t responded in over a month.
same issue here; my squishy engineer is getting crushed while my NPCs stand around and only revive; it’s almost a special kind of hell; they won’t even just let me die
Same issue with me as well, but it’s with all story instances. The NPCs will do nothing unless I pull enemies to them and they’re attacked by the enemies. Really frustrating.
Came looking for an answer to this and glad it’s a big and not how it’s intended. I am replaying the story on another character and could have sworn I remember the NPCs attacking every god kitten mob in the labyrinth, but this time nothing? When I got to the boss I couldn’t believe they were just following after me… took me ages to kill him. If you say this is all the story instances so help me God.
