Inventory Icon bug list
Hooray this thread! Yes, we are wanting to address as many icon issues as we can, but it’s such a huge game that it can be hard for us to find all the anomalies ourselves. We have a pretty good handle on what weapons don’t have unique icons that match its model and we are slowly working our way through that list. We’ve been updating various weapon icons in pretty much every patch.
Things that are particularly helpful:
- Icons for Karma Accessories or Consumables that make no sense for what it is.
- Weapon icons that are wrong when you KNOW there is a correct icon out there, it just hasn’t been matched up correctly.
- Armor icons that don’t match their model. Particularly if the icon looks like it belongs to a different weight class.
- Anything else that doesn’t make sense :p
Keep this stuff coming, we will be watching this thread for sure!
The PvP locker has several armor and weapon skin errors (last I checked). Do you want those as well?
Vision of the Mists has a generic sword/greatsword icon. It is a beautiful sword and the icon does not do it justice!
Norn T3 cultural Armour uses stock images, from what i can tell.
The Destroyer weapons lack unique icons and use the generic ones. At least the greatsword and hammer do so I assume the others are the same.

Confirmed at least for heavy armor. Worth 120 gold, but the icons are exactly the same of the no-value level-0 items.
You’ve got to be really careful not to salvage the wrong items :-)
Leatherworking: The Outlaw Shoulders (made with cotton insignias at 175 Leatherworking) has an icon that doesn’t look like the armor and the icon doesn’t match the icons of the rest of the set. (Rest of the set has yellow background highlights while the shoulders have blue.)
The icon for the fellblade is a generic greatsword after trasmutation.
Linsey, I understand GW2 is very large and the sheer volume of items in it that sometimes things here and there can be misplaced/misaligned, whatever word you want to use for the mix-up of icons; but don’t you think the people that were hired for this should have got it right the first time around? While icons are not specifically high on the to-do list, how can they manage to only get 5 of 6 armor pieces correct or to forget a whole set of weapons? I understand the odd one here and there but there has been a lot of muck-ups and they should be fixed asap, not waiting until there is a new monthly patch.
There is another issue with the Citadel of Flame medium armor. The icons for the chest piece and shoulders are not actually wrong, but more like…outdated.
By looking at the inventory icons I’d say that most likely at some point during game development the chest piece had no flaming particle effects and the flames from the current chest piece were actually part of the old shoulders piece for that armor. Probably due to major clipping issues with other chest pieces from different armors, the CoF chest piece ended up being the old chest piece merged with the shoulders piece and the CoF shoulders piece got a new model.
Just got a Mending Zweihander (Masterwork level 32 Greatsword [don’t know how much info you need]) that has one of the more generic Greatsword icons.

Chimeric prism – HoM reward – when transmuted onto another focus, loses it’s unique icon.
The PvP locker has inconsistencies with armor that is flat out named wrong when compared with PvE. “leather” armor in the first row is Duelist. PvP “duelist” is the PvE marksman set. I am very confident that there are more inconsistencies between PvP and PvE gear but the current behavior of previewing frustrates this.
PvE Duelist has the generic leather armor icon and for some reason, the Fiery Dragon Sword HoM skin icon is different to the FDS icon when applied to a weapon, it looks like a shrunk render than the stylized skin icon.
Crafted rascal boots miss the purple background that the rest of the rascal set has.
The Beaded Speargun and Beaded Spear have swapped icons AND models. The speargun uses the Spear inventory icon and the spear model in-game, and the Spear uses the speargun assets (both icon and model).
the Fiery Dragon Sword HoM skin icon is different to the FDS icon when applied to a weapon, it looks like a shrunk render than the stylized skin icon.
That was fixed last patch, at least for me. The “shrunk” version is actually the GW1 icon for the FDS.

This was not a case of us mucking things up and not getting it right the first time. There are literally tens of thousands of items in the game. We simply could not generate unique art for all those items in time for ship and did not feel that not having unique icons for all the items in the game warranted pushing back our release date. Each icon is hand painted by one of our concept artists and they take pride in their work, which is why we are making an extra effort, in addition to all our other duties, to fill in the holes that we know are there. That takes time. It’s not like we are just waiting to do it, we are generating new icons every day and we push them Live in the soonest patch we can.
omg, any chance I can get this post noticed by Linsey?
Can you please make the sPvP locker come in columns of 12? Armor sets come in a set of 6 pieces, and having 10 columns just makes the arrangment all out of whack. It would be much, much, much, much more easier to track if it were in columns of 12 (two sets per row).
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
Linsey, can you please pass my compliments onto whoever designed the new icon for Mystic Claymore, it looks great – much more like the actual weapon. Also opening a dragon chest and just getting blues/2 greens last night wasn’t so bad with all the new icons and art, looks really good.
Just to confirm, what is and isn’t supposed to have the generic icon? Are all ‘somewhat named’ items supposed to have their own unique icon? I’d like to confirm that before making a list.

The awesome looking (especially for level 20) Jotun Greatsword has no unique icon.

I would say anything that doesn’t look like what you see when you preview the item should be on the list.
In theory you should be able find the correct piece of gear in your inventory without having to hover over everything assuming you took the effort to get unique skins for each item you are using.
The Ash Legion Spy Kit is currently the same icon as a Crude Salvage Kit, and the Order of Whispers Spy Kit is randomly a bomb without a background.

I will make note that all of the “of the Dragon’s Deep” weapons have generic icons, and do not have icons specifically showing what each of them look like. I anticipate that this is well-known to the devs, but figure I’ll mention it anyway. Thanks for the hard work, art team!
All the lv50 crafted Rare weapons from Weaponsmith/Artificer/Huntsman have the generic icon. They are the ones with Dredge in the name.
Centurions Claw HoM skin appears as a normal dagger in inventory when using the original transmutation from the HoM, and also after transmutation with a stone. The name and weapon itself are fine, only the inventory icon is incorrect. It has been like this since pre-release.

That would be a major UI change. I don’t think that is something we can do. Sorry. There might be changes in the order that could help make it more manageable, I’ll look into if that is something we can do.
We already have a really good and comprehensive list of what weapons need icons that we are working off of, so you guys don’t need to report weapons without icons. I haven’t had the time to make that same list for armors or all the consumables and trinkets. It takes days to dig through all the files and cross reference everything to make lists like that, but I’ve already done it for weapons. I’ll do armors next when I find the time in between my assigned tasks. I would say that the top priority in reports would be things like the Ash Legion Spy Kit and Whispers Spy Kit. Those are the kinds of things that slip through the cracks. Weapons and armors don’t really slip through per se, there are just so many of them to get through that it’s going to take a long time before all of them have icons that match their models.
Our Goddess of Icons, Maryeli, is going to be keeping an eye on this thread as well, so by all means, heap on the praise. She is amazing and she totally deserves it!
Also, thanks for the reports on the HoM stuff! I’ll take a look at all of those. Sounds like something funny is going on there.
- Many of the HoM icons look similar to generic weapon icons.
- Mystic Salvage Kit icons are like Crude Salvage Kit (if there’s no unique variant, it should look like a Master’s Kit, since they have same stats)
- Liquid karma items look too much like anti-undead potions (e.g. Taste vs Minor, Swig vs regular, flask vs strong)
Thanks for taking a look at this.
Not a totally sure if this belongs here, I noticed that some transmuted items show different icons in different spots. Correct in my own bag, but in correct in the vendors sales window – is this something that you need to know as well?
Edit: How about an “Icon Artist Spotlight” for Maryeli? Totally love how crafting material ’looks" more valuable the higher the tiers get for example. Gotta love icons, they are a very vital part of representing the item!
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Well, i found some too, hope they weren`t mentioned before:
- some pirate weapons have no unique icons
- had an asura greatsword using the tribal sword icon
…snip…

I fully agree with this, Maryeli has done a great job on icons. To the list of weapons that need accurate icons please add both the Peacemaker Longbow and Shortbow.
All tiers of NORN Cultural HEAVY Armor now only have stock/white images for their armor pieces.
This makes it dangerous to keep in your inventory, because especially now that everyone’s salvaging for Essences of Luck, you might accidentally mistake your expensive Cultural Armor for basic white/stock armor.
Would be good to get the icons back – they used to have proper icons.

Items: All of the Asura Cultural Tier 3 Medium ‘Prototype’ Armor
Issue: Incorrect Item Icons
Description:
All of the Asura Cultural Tier 3 Medium ‘Prototype’ Armor has generic icons instead of custom icons like other cultural gear. Would Maryeli happen to have time to create some beautiful icons for the gear?

A year after the game launched and Arah weapons still have white icons. The most prestigious dungeon rewards in the game.
Not to mention Asura T3 weapons as well…
