I know botting is grounds for getting banned. However, I was wondering what all is considered “botting”. Is it just using an outside client to manipulate GW2. Or can it also be using the in game mechanics.

I ask because I recently realized on my ranger that if I set the auto attack function to my trap skills, my character will continually set traps. That combined with my pet attacking is enough to help out in some recurring events.

Some of these events you simply have to be in the area to get credit though. So what is the take on camping out in a certain area that has a frequent recurring event. If you’re leaving your character there for long periods of time?

if you arent manning the char I am pretty sure you are guilty of botting even though you arent using an outside program. I remember seeing a case of this on these forums but it was a few weeks ago.

But they made it so you can. lol

And if you’re just sitting in a known event area without doing anything at all and get some exp from it? Besides making other players mad, I don’t think that would be against rules to just… stand around. Of course you’d get disconnected after a bit

Even if you wouldnt get banned I hope you would.. its pretty kitten shady and wrong of you. I can guarantee you would get tons of bot reports by doing it and 1 would probably stick, especially if a GM tried to contact you and you were afk

If you want to set your trap on auto and your pet to active, and sit back and watch for hours, you certainly can. There’s nothing wrong with that. No player can tell you which skills you are and aren’t allowed to use while playing

Just be ready to respond to any tells (especially the ones coming from any CSR investigating a complaint) to prove that you are actively sitting there at your keyboard. But if you’re planning on setting that up and going AFK, you’re probably going to get in trouble. Your gaming is supposed to be attended.

Hi everyone.

Thanks for asking. According to the description provided, this is not considered botting but rather a personal use of in-game mechanics.

And, as the answer is already given, we proceed to close the thread.
